Absolute Gem for any and all Dragonball Collectors!

Post by Strictly-Dragonball »

Browsing eBay today I noticed this INCREDIBLY RARE DB item that I thought I would share with those who may not have seen it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWAX:IT

I can't stress enough how rare an item this is and the seller isn't lying when he says there is probably 50 or less in such a brand new factory sealed condition.

This was for a long time considered one of the holy grail and rarest of PS1 games until Atari decided to re-release the game in 2004 nearly eliminating all collector value for this. FOOLS! :)

The game was originally released in 1997 just before DBZ took America by storm and Bandai only made 10,000 copies of these babies due to nobody knowing what on earth DBZ was at the time.

After the show became the huge success it was this game quickly became a hot commodity with many copies selling for many hundreds of dollars in the late 1990's and early 2000's up until the re-release.

I had seen the disc alone sell for well over $200 for example and seen the complete game go for up to and possibly over $500 at times. It really was in extreme demand. DB was at it's peak of popularity and the fans and collectors wanted this thing like crazy! How do I know? I was one of them, searching for this game for YEARS! 8O

I ended up eventually getting a complete copy sometime in 2003-04 before the re-releases at a bargain price of $75, I think I caught the auction JUST as it listed and wasted no time hitting buy it now, the reason for the low price was it was in rough condition but as I said I had seen the disc go for over $200 so you really couldn't go wrong.

Yes the game isn't worth as much as it was in it's prime before the re-release but to find one in this condition, for true fans and collectors I guarantee you will NEVER see another one again so it's worth the price.

Thought I would share. :D

Just wanted to add, adding to the mystery surrounding this game it's believed by many folks that the incredible demand for this game in it's prime is what convinced Atari to get the Dragonball license in the first place and at all costs.

This game is the reason, the driving force behind that business decision.

They saw the insane prices people would pay for it and they wanted the license, they also made sure to re-release this to coincide with the airing of DBGT in America.

DBZ since became one of their most valuable assets and they obviously made A LOT of DBZ games over the years.

I read your history for the game and that is interesting.
I watched DBZ when it first came to the United States and I liked it but it never really stuck with me (I of course was a girl and Sailor Moon was a lot cooler to me at the time lol)

Looking at the price and seeing how this could be a Holy Grail for a collector out there, makes you think what is important to you and what others consider important to them. The price seems INSANE to me but it would be completely worth it to someone else.

It is interesting and pretty cool though and thanks for sharing ^_^

I would say that this seller is just chasing shadows in favor of substance. Considering they had five offers to buy it for cheaper than their initial listing, I'm surprised that they've RAISED their asking price, instead of lowering it. Obviously the people who are interested in the game aren't interested in the asking price.
Considering that the seller makes the *very good point* of this being an economic recession, it is very evident that this person is getting a BS in biology and isn't a business major. Most people who are desperate for money don't raise the asking price of their goods beyond the possible disposable income of their clients.

A collectible is only worth what someone else is willing to pay. And considering how long this has been on eBay, no one seems willing to pay.

I think my favorite "WTF?" line from their auction listing is:
I am using my Aunts eBay store for the BUYERS PIECE OF MIND knowing that he/she is NOT dealing with a FRAUD, but rather an honest and thoroughly knowledgeable collector.
No...your AUNT is knowledgeable and reputable seller, hence her eBay feedback. We have no knowledge of YOUR reputation or experience. :rollin

Best of luck to this guy, but honestly, I can see this circling eBay for months, maybe even years. This kid'll be lucky if it sells by the time he is out of medical school in about 10 years.

I agree completely that $7,000 has crossed the line from being overly-optimistic to just completely ridiculous. It isn't worth $7,000 on the current market.

Even if this was being sold before the re-release I would be surprised to see it make that much. Hard to put a value on it as I never saw a sealed copy in all my years of being involved with this game and looking for it... and I probably won't ever again.

I would say based on how much I saw un-sealed games go for and the extreme demand for it it could have probably made $3,000 or more maybe 5K max in it's prime.

The original asking price that was under $500 was an absolute bargain though so the people who made offers will be kicking themselves now :hurt:

When people see the 'Make Offer' button they tend to get a little greedy and can't see a fantastic deal staring them straight in the face as is you know?

Just because someone made an offer to try and get it at a lower price, doesn't mean they wouldn't pay the full price tag. They try their luck to get it as cheap as possible and in this case it was such a waste X|

TBH if I didn't already own the game I would have just bought it but I don't have any desire for a sealed one.

It could have been bought for $450 for an amazing price! :)

But now it's clear the seller doesn't really want to sell it, he made that very clear in the description anyway. There is a very small market for games that go into the thousands so it won't sell on eBay.

It would likely be sold privately one day. Even after the re-release in 2004, it didn't change the rarity of the original US release (still only 10,000 of them made) and the fact it's sealed makes it a holy grail yes.

The original and the re-release are easy to tell apart so there will always be some demand for the original 1997 version.

A sealed game is probably worth $1,000 - $1,500 max after the re-release so yeah $7,000 says to me he really doesn't want to let it go and won't unless offered a crazy amount.

Like some of us have cels where we have been made offers may times more than we paid but we wouldn't sell, or we would only sell for something ABOVE market value due to the emotional attachment involved. No different here with this seller :)

One reason DBGT Final Bout was so sought after is because there were essentially two markets for it. You had the DB collector's (which is why I wanted it, as a DB fan) and then you have the video game collectors and up until the re-release Final Bout was at the top of collector's wishlists even if you hated the series for example, if you collected video games you would want that game.

I bought Final Bout when it was first released in English. I still have it, too. I just never thought it was that good a game. Controls were laggy... ;)

Hector the Collector loved these things with all his soul,
Loved them more than shining diamonds, loved them more than glistenin' gold.
Hector called to all the people,"Come and share my treasure trunk!"
And all the silly sightless people came and looked...and called it junk.
