Tarzan (Disney)

Post by Strictly-Dragonball »

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know of any online gallery that stocks original production drawings from this film? Best Disney film ever for me.

Thanks

I just saw an original background with a hand-painted cel at S/R Labs. They have a big Disney themed auction a couple times a year. You have to create an account to see the artwork for auction.

Wow now I'm thoroughly confused, I thought
the last cel based movie by Disney was Little Mermaid???
Why is the gallery above selling a repro-ish cel as
original ? Or am I wrong? :messed :flushie

Thanks for all your help guys! :D I don't really get it either, I know some films past The Little Mermaid were not completely cel based but combined aspects of traditional hand drawn animation and computer animation such as Beauty and the Beast. I have seen original production cels from that feature in the $8,000-$10,000 range.

Really don't think Tarzan has any production cels at all though, although there are drawings, bought one yesterday of Terk from the sequence where Sabor attacks (favorite scene). :)

I am very happy with any production artwork from this film as it's so rare from what I've seen, Phil Collins does an incredible job on the music.

I would still love any production drawing of Tarzan himself though, although I have never seen one :(

Disney do release original production backgrounds with matching reproduction cels for their none cel based films. I've seen them from Mulan, Hunchback and Beauty and the beast.

I'm sure that's what this Tarzan "cel" is :D Although that's not the most inspiring background ever :? They could have picked something better.

Oh, and they're always expensive!

Yeah that's true, they sell a selection of original backgrounds with re-created cels hand painted by the Disney animators. Very rare as backgrounds are much rarer and usually more prized than cels and sketches anyway.

But I agree Nadia, of all the absolutely stunning jungle backgrounds in Tarzan and you get a bit of water with a fairly average profile shot of two secondary characters... all for just under $8,400! 8O No thanks haha.

Shampoo, you are right. Disney stopped cel production since Little Mermaid (last cels). They do this thing with Tarzan where they make reproduction cels on original production backgrounds. That places charges an arm and a let for things, and they do not update often.
I would advise to check out Ebay regularly. They have some great production drawings from Tarzan every now and then at VERY cheap prices compared to buying them in galleries. And I have found some of the most amazing things there.

Might hopefully be able to find me one of Tarzan so that will be awesome if it works out.
