My gallery and hello to all!

Post by teppy »

Hi Anime-Beta!

I was unsure whether I should post this in the introduction forum or the gallery forum because this post is a little bit of both. First, I'd like to thank the community for the invite to join the forum. I'm a long time cel collector and really enjoy the hobby (of course). I've been collecting cels since the late 90's. I've had a rekindling of my interest in cels collecting and have decided to reopen my Rubberslug gallery. Almost all of what I have are Golion (Voltron) cels. I don't have too many in total, but I have a decent selection from that show. I rarely make additions to my collection, but I enjoy the cels I have. Recently, I've gotten into the original Macross TV show and I'm actively looking for cels from that show. I am also open for trades of some of my current cels. I've been amazed at the collections of some of the more prolific members of Rubberslug, but what I enjoy the most is seeing the enthusiasm that the community here has for collecting and displaying animation art regardless of the size or scope of the collections. Well, that's the introduction. And here the link to my gallery: http://paintandplastic.rubberslug.com/gallery/home.asp

Thanks for reading :)
Looking for: Excellent cels of Misa Hayase from Macross.

Welcome to the madness, and thanks for sharing your passion for Voltron. I will look through your collection with interest, as this "pre-DBZ" era of anime increasingly interests me. And what could possibly be really bad about a series with a robot protagonist with arms that end in big cat heads. (I like big cats!)

Have fun and don't be afraid to post and ask questions. Just take the answers with a grain of salt, as we are all hopeless decepticons.

Welcome to Beta :)

Good luck on your search for Macross cels. Just have fun with it - you never know what you'll find if you're patient enough. A lot of items I own I never thought I'd have a chance at owning.

Oh, hey! Glad you made it over here! :D It was fun taking a look through your Voltron cels--I'll have to find those original videos you were talking about on YouTube sometime. xD I wonder if Lotor is actually devilishly-scary like he ought to be in the original. xP

Yes, I'm no expert on the history of anime, but I think the early 80's was an interesting period in the art with all of the big robot/ space opera themes being explored. The result of it was some pretty interesting animation. I think GoLion represents the height of the mindless...er...formulaic super robot shows. I've seen a little bit of Mazinger Z, Voltes V and the like, and, of course, the GoLion robot is a novel and fun presentation of the concept. Of course, I think childhood nostalgia has a lot to do with my interest, as I recently tried to watch the American WEP dub, an the dialogue was painful. The original GoLion, while more enjoyable in terms of sheer campiness was also extremely repetitive and formulaic almost to the point of hilarity.

Regarding the quality of the animation, I do appreciate the style of the late 70's early 80's and prefer it to the little anime I've seen from the 90's onward...
Looking for: Excellent cels of Misa Hayase from Macross.

Rather than scary, Sincline (Lotor) comes across as a fairly dim, deviant, violent lunatic with a lust for power.

Yes, thanks. I'm glad you found that one interesting. I do really like this Star Trekker piece because it captures a great time in Star Trek fandom - also signature 80's, the original cast movie era e.g. The Wrath of of Khan and so on. The Atelier Lana "Star Trekker" graphic novels are still floating around on Amazon and ebay and are fun spoofs...

Welcome, teppy! Your gallery may be small compared to some others but you really do have some great cels! I LOVED Voltron as a kid (still haven't watched GoLion) and am still hoping to add a cel from it to my collection. Right now I've been watching a bunch of the Super Sentai shows, which are also from Toei, though they are of the live-action ilk rather than anime.

I agree with Rei here. That is a really unique and, well, "neat" piece!

Can't count how many hours of Voltron I watched as a youngster. Hi there, nice to meet you.
