A wise guy is having fun with these Phibrizzo auctions

Okay, the first cel that popped up went for 44,444 yen. I thought this was cute, since the number 4 is associated with death in Japan, and, yeah, that's a cel of the death god from Slayers. So obviously someone was having fun there.
Well a new cel popped up of him, and the current bid is 123,456 yen. That's a lot of money just to be funny. I've never seen anything like this before.

Sellers sometimes put odd and preposterously high starting amounts so that you'll contact them and offer them a price instead. They don't want to pay auction fees, so arranging a transaction privately is a way to avoid paying them.

Oh no, these aren't the starting amounts. These are what the bidding wars ended up being at (30-40 bids on each). Someone has a sense of humor.

Yes, that is the auction I'm referring to. Slayers cel collectors are few but dedicated.
As for the appeal of the character, well.. he's one of the more memorable baddies, imo. What he accomplished, or didn't accomplish, made for a very exciting finale for season two.
