I show them because when I search RS for a series I prefer to look at the galleries with the most first in case I run out of time, so therefor I return the courtesy to others 8)

I'm in the minority, again. :^^: I don't show the number next to my series. First, I think it looks tacky. But second, and most important to me, is in some cases it makes me feel like I'm bragging (which I do not want to do). Seriously, if you want to know which of my sections are larger, they are the ones split into multiple sections. (ex. FMA, FMA - Edward, FMA - Hankens, FMA - Special)

But you can do that under "manage cels" in your account. :?

I don't show the number because I don't like how it looks. I don't care if others have it or not, because when I'm checking out a gallery for a particular series, I don't care if the person has 1 or 100. I'm not going to not look because they only have one, because that one might be THE one I want to see and and plead for. :P

Tacky? As in, 'tastelessly showy'?

I don't login to maintain my account very often. Actually, I haven't logged in to do anything except blog once in the last few months. I do, however, enjoy regularly looking at my gallery from the perspective of a visitor. It's much easier than digging up cel books and I enjoy seeing the numbers in the main display. I don't see the point of looking at the numbers in "manage artwork," that would mean extra clicking on my part. :^^:

You know, I'm always willing to lower your number of Uchihas. :evilblk

Ah, WC, you see, I'm always tweaking my gallery as well as looking at it from a vistor point of view so I guess we really do have two totally different point of views. Interesting. :^^:

I "showed" until there was a thread here last year or so about whether folks liked seeing it. The consensus was that folks didn't like it, so I turned it off.

Bah. Itachi wears purple nail polish and Sasuke tromps around with his shirt open to his navel.

Clearly those boys thrive on tacky. :^^:

I have mine up, but I don't remember if I set it up that way or if the option was automatically on to begin with. As it stands, I don't really care one way or the other, so I'm not going to go change it. :P

My gallery is also there to help me keep track of things, so I like having the numbers up and don't plan to change.

no numbers for me. aside from using them as a tracker for personal reasons, the only other advantage is to wow your visitors, *lol*... and sometimes i am definitely impressed by those (100+) next to a section. kudos to you guys!

I tend to shy away from sections that have 100 cels . . . just because it would take soooo long to look at them all. :P I'm thinking about breaking my big three up as it is, just to make browsing easier. "Thinking" being the operative word there. X| :D

For my own gallery, I don't like the numbers. I think my gallery looks sexier without that little bit of extra clutter. If I leave the numbers off, I have a little extra space to prevent my titles from wrapping to a second line. Plus, since I'm primarily collecting sketches nowadays, the numbers don't work so well. I sometimes put up the same sketches, still and animated versions, and I never put up each individual sketch. I like using my sketch thumbnails on every item possible. :D

However, the reason I originally turned the numbers off was because my gallery has a bunch of "phantom" cels (that I still haven't bothered to arrange so they can be removed), so the counts are all wrong anyhow.

For other galleries, I don't care either way. It's interesting info for a split second, but the actual cel/sketch images are what make a gallery more or less interesting, not the quantity.

Yes. Especially when the gallery owner has the pages set to 4 or 6 instead of 18 or 24. If the owner also arranges the cels in a way that new cels are scattered all over, the small number of cels per page is even worse--I rarely feel like going through 10-20 pages to find a couple of new items.
