What series is it? Is it a US, European or Japanese anime cel?Kujaku wrote:Sorry to piggyback my question here, but does anyone know anything about cels with retangular production holes? I remembered a long time ago that this was brought up, but I can no longer find the thread.
Does anyone have an info on these. I'm interested in a cel, but I don't want to pay too much for something that isn't a production cel.
Questions about cels and sketches
From Clamp's X the Movie. It is the Seishirou that is currently up. I emailed them becuase it the production hole looked a little funny to me in the picture. Turns out I was right, because they emailed back saying that the production holes were rectangular. The part I think is funny is that they don't mention anything in the auction about the production holes being rectangular and their supposed to be a trusted seller. I emailed a few people (because I didn't get a response here on Beta) and all the response so far is that normally a rectangular production hole on a cel means it is a fake or fan cel. So far it is up to $200, but I don't want to pay that much for something that isn't a production cel.Kata wrote:What series is it? You don't usually see production hole info in auctions mentioned or on websites.
If it's a X Movie cel you can always ask people who own cels from that anime. I personally haven't seen reg. holes like that from X Movie, but that doesn't mean anything.
If I was you, ask people that own several cels like Rhey and Poe, remi, JennB and glorff have/had a larger collection from X Movie. They should be able to give you info if they have cels with those type of reg. holes or at least seen or maybe they know something about it.
On other hand you can always take the DVD and scap the exact image and match it up to every single dot with colors and lines and if it matches then you got your answer. That's the only way you can make sure, since fancels usually don't 100% match. There is always a little fluke in a fancel if it's a line, shading, color or other things, especially if it's a cel anime.
Good Luck in finding out!
If it's the cel on eBay it looks real to me.
But as I said just check the screencap and match it to the cel if you not sure.

sorry to drag the thread up again - but I just received a couple of Genga's and they had a lot of coloured pencil shading (i'm guessing they mean different highlights/shadow lines, etc) on the reverse.
Is this common practice in animation? And why is it done on the revese of the Ganga? Timesaving maybe?
Come to think of it - I think the same thing is on a sketch I got with an earlier You're Under Arrest cel.
So yeah, I'm very curious about it
