I was recently asked what you should do if you really don't know any of the characters from the manga.

In the case of Yashamaru, it might be possible to just read his role.
He dies, after all, midway through chapter 9.

But he doesn’t really leave the manga until two thirds of the way through chapter 17
…

Yashamaru is the very first of the antagonists to be introduced to the reader, and he immediately captures attention,
with his cocky self-assured attitude , and formidable skills.

But even as he is glorying in showing off his hard won abilities
,

we are shown that this very level of skill has made him, and his kind, seem somehow
less than human in others’ eyes…

Completely unaware of this fact, Yashamaru will fight to the end in defense of his clan,
and especially for Hotarubi, the girl he will never see again…

Despite being a uniquely talented ninja, chosen to represent his clan, the Iga, in a demonstration of Ninja Arts for the retired Shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Yashamaru is also very like a soldier. Those who give their all and serve without question. He would never be consulted with about “treaty negotiations” with the Kouga. He is not a clan leader, nor one of their heirs, like Basilisk’s main couple, with their tragic “Romeo and Juliet” romance.

He is just a young man

in love with a girl from his own clan, who loves him as well.

He is a brave fighter

who will die defending his home

and never return to those left behind…

Because those in positions of great power, have cynically exploited longstanding rivalries and hate.



My first vote goes to Yashamaru - Basilisk.

Quick question!!

I love how irmgaard goes into descriptions about
her characters roles yada yada yada. It really brings
the character to life. For one who ha sread Basilisk
manga, and seen the anime, its great to be able to
read these and see what interesting things she brings
to the table for her characters.

Now, lets move forward to who I would like to push,
which obviously would be Kaname from Vampire Knight.
Later in the manga, you learn some really interesting
things about Zero, Kaname and Yuuki. I would love to
bring those to light, but what scares me, is the people who
are not reading the manga, and only following the anime.
Some of these things would be HUGE spoilers. For those of
you who are reading Vampire Knight and are caught up, you
know exactly what I mean.

I have been afraid to post things like irmgaard's posts, for
fear of throwing out some totally mind blowing things for
those who are only following the anime and not the manga.

Oh, and if you were going to say use spoiler tags, for me, that
would totally spoil the whole flow of the images and reasons
why you think others should vote for the character. Just my .02

First, welcome, Jenn! It's so nice to see a fresh voter to come along and shake things up a bit.

And finally, Gonzai, saving the best for last or really the hardest. I thought about that too. Honestly, I don't think I have a good answer. I would try to keep the spoilers down though. I really love how irmgaard goes into great description like she does. I've learned a lot about Basilisk, a series I've never read nor watched. Her ads have made me put that series on my to watch list.

However, Vampire Knight is a series I am watching and just started reading. So far I've only read the first volume. That's what - 5 chapters? It might be a downer to me to have something major revealed. Was the fact that Yashamaru dies in Basilisk a major spoiler? I don't know. But I do know that now I won't be surprised when he dies.

So - best judgment on spoilers. Try not to put anything too major in your ads. I think it's great to sell your character to the point someone else wants to read the manga.
