I didn't understand until. . .

Post by kisara »

So, finished Evangelion lastnight and I have to say. . . LMAO! I was going to try an' find that Anime Endings thread, but I'm far too lazy. But oh!!! It's certainly up there as the worst. I've never laughed so hard in my life! Especially after reading what you guys had all written about it. I just couldn't believe something could be that bad, so I'm sitting there trying to take it all in and I blurt-out, in complete bewilderment, "Omigod! They were right!" My husband's was lookin at me like I had completely lost it, just could not understand why I was doubled-over laughing, or, for that matter, why I was watching a cartoon where they apparently let small children play with the last senquences! I didn't even try to explain.

*catches breath*

But now, I must say, after I quit laughing and could gather my thoughts, I've got this whole big theory. . . maybe the end HAD to be bad. I can honestly see Gainax folks gathered around the table goin', "Hey man, we're getting far too serious with this whole 'what is life?' 'what is human value?' etc.etc. thing. It is, after all and no-matter how much you want to glorify it, a cartoon. Why don't we lighten it up at the end and get a good chuckle?"

It could've happened! LMAO It's better than believing that is the end they'd really intended! Oh my!

We'll talk about the "anime meets clockwork orange" sequences later! :P

*goes to find tylenol for massive headache they induced*

Which ending exactly did you watch? The TV series ending or The End of Evangelion (movie). I would agree that the end of the TV series was kinda ridiculous, however The End of Evangelion is something else. The weirdest, hardest to understand, yet most awesome end to an anime...ever (well, thats what I think anyway ;) ).

Sorry, should have been more specific. It was the series. I started to watch the movies, but my head was still reeling from what I'd just witnessed. Anyway, it's going to be my entertainment as I tackle the laundry today. Blah!

Ya know y'all be hearin' about it when I'm done. :P

Hahaha well....don't expect your head to stop reeling anytime soon if you watch EoE. First time I watched it was quite a few years ago, and I'll be damned if I could tell you what it all means.

The series' ending was to suppose to be open.. kinda like interpretive..
whereas the ending to the movie was Anno's way of giving fans
the giant :doubleflip :flipa
He was tired, cranky, depressed, and fed up w/ workin on Eva and the fact
fans kept writing him nasty letters and even death threats *eep* bout how terrible
the ending to the series was. X|
Poor guy.. :hurt:

It really shouldnt be analyzed 'too much' thou if you are,
you have to remember the guy was in a cult, so his way of thinkingmight be a lil
different from ours. :dwink

I thought that the ending was as good as any anime I have ever seen. You just have to flow with it and understand what the Shinji is going through and the decision that he has to make and his resistance to the whole thing. If you have seen 2001 a Space Oddesy you have seen the same type of thing.

Give it another chance after you have thought about it for a while, and remember everything that has to be conveyed in a visual only form 8)

I believe it. There were a lot of pagan ideas runnin' through that thing. Lot of Qabalah, some obvious (big ol' tree of life graphic in the opening), some not (reference to Lillith). I was almost inspired enough to tackle Regardie again after this, but. . . head reelin' and all. Can't think THAT much today.

ANYHOO. . .

The series ending seems funnier now. Almost like something I would have come up with in one of my particularly manic states: All motivate to share this big "truth with humanity and right at the climax. . . "Ah, nah. Feck it!" :P

Sooo me!

Oh, I "got it." It was an abstract to an extent. Just didn't like that it had no build-up. There I was, "goin' with the flow," then. . . Bam! Clockwork Orange! lmao My head wasn't ready for it.

OMG some friends and I watched Evangelion as a group. We waited for MONTHS for the last one to come out in the US and sat down in eager anticipation.....for.....THAT! :x So then we thought maybe we just didn't get it so we watched it again.... Nope....

IT'S JUST PLAIN AWFUL.

Because of that, I still haven't watched the movie. I'm just too wounded. :l I think it is a total cop-out. And yes, I can understand death threats.

And yes, I've tried it drunk and "under the influence". Nope, still sucks.

At least that takes some weight off of you! It's not that you don't get it! It's that IT'S TERRIBLE!!! :D

Heh... wasn't there a topic on this in the Rubberslug forum recently?
Apparently, Jason felt the same way.*Sigh*:?

The only thing I can tell you is to definitely give "The End of Evangelion" and "Death and Rebirth" a chance to give you some more answers and a little more closure. You won't find everything your looking for, but it's anime - there are no ultimate answers.

Oh gosh I didn't think it was that bad.

Weird as hell, without any doubt. I like Glorff's comparison of it to 2001...it really is a lot like that. (I didn't like 2001 the first couple of times I saw it either).

I had to watch it a couple of times to get what was going on, but it wasn't THAT hard. It was just... weird after the tone of the rest.

TERRIBLE is... .... Dragon Drive.

Okie. I gave it my best. Mind you, I was battling a migraine (apparently it wasn't the Clockwork Orange ending of the series that made me ill!), BUT. . . "The End. . ." and "Rebirth" made even less sense to me. In fact, it made the series end seem like genius. I can really see where it could have been a flip-off to fans that didn't like the series end.

I like that it (series) was open-ended. That is, after-all, what I got from the series. "The only person who determines the course of a life is the person living it." That's it. That's the only thing I think was supposed to come of the series and I "got that" at the end. I don't think I really felt a big need for "closure" like I do with, say, IY. It's (IY) a story that seems it should have a beginning, middle, and (god willing!) an end. It's built on the characters and I want to know what comes of them! Eva was built on a philosophical theory which I was completely aware of by the end. I didn't want anymore from it. I just didn't like the way the "end" was conveyed. It was such a heavy thought. . . I think you could have gone sooo far with the "end." That's what dissappointed me about it.
