Jin-Rôh: The Wolf Brigade

Post by Blackmegabyte »

Don't remember seeing a topic on this film yet. Anyone seen it? I think it's fricken brilliant! This ranks up there with w/ Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust in terms of visuals and story.

It's scary, it's brutal, it's sad, it's powerful. It's filled with allegories, intertextuality, make-believe reality and history.

The action is jaw-dropping!, unflinching and beautiful. :badass

One instance w/ a running bomb had me glued to my seat. Trust me, if you haven't seen this msterpiece, go out and rent it!! BUY IT even.

Warnings: slight complaints about the film ive heard before in the past. Some say its too weird. Theres an underlying motif in the film echoing that of the Little Red Riding Hood story (get it, its called WOLF brigade). Some views that the ending was too unhappy (not from me!), which i can understand.

A whole bunch of thmbs UP:

I totally agree with Blackmegabyte here!

It's one of my all time favorite animes.... such a good film. Great art, good story, and I actually love the echoing of the Little Red Riding Hood story. Oh man, it's just a great great film! =D

I for one really didn't like it. It was boring! The visuals where pretty good, but the story just put me to sleep. I stopped watching this movie midway threw, and forced myself to watch the rest of it the next day. This movie is definitely not for everyone. Ranked up there with Grave of the Fireflies with boringness. Both films I equally dislike.

Yes! Excellent movie! It's great to see something with a different ending. Too bad Hollywood can't make this type of story!

Moving this topic to Anime General Thread as this isn't cel related.

Great visuals, but I was never a big fan of the story. Still, I'd love to get my hands on a cel of the Panzer Guard. Too bad cels from this film are notoriously difficult to find. I can count the cels I've seen on one hand... :?

I thought it was pretty good, story was alright, but the art and the Panzer Guards were top notch!

I dont think there is an anime for -everyone- is there? >_> And yeah, I'll admit the story isn't very action packed.... but unlike GOTF, I didn't have to watch it twice to love it. I bough Jin-Roh right off the shelf, b/c I had wanted to see it so bad from the previews on another DVD... The story left me thinking, and I like that :D.

Yeah I agree, its really horrible that there is such little artwork for this movie. I heard that most of the cels/sketches were destroyed. I'm holding on to hope that they just haven't been released yet. >_<

Yeah---- the Hollywood Reporter loved it according to http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/jinroh_ ... f_brigade/ but overall critics were divided on it.

Seems the biggest complaint among the naysayers is that the story is not great---- but most agree the visuals knock your sockx off.

THe avid supporters say is has a deep story and is powerful

Grave of the Fireflies scored much better with critics but many still say its really depressing-- http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/grave_of_the_fireflies/
Keep on keepin' on Dilandau.
