i was just wondering, is it normal to open up a naruto repro cel, and find that the outter green matting leaves an impression on the cel?? especially parts on parts with paint. ive seen it on most of my naruto cels.
do you guys actually prefer to keep these cels sealed to do you transfer these cels to convential cel bags?

I used to open my repro cels, and I didn't notice the imprint before, so that could be a heat thing that happened during shipping. But Stephen from Anime Museum said to never open repro or rilezu cels, so I don't open them anymore. I'd suggest putting it back in the bag or another bag with the frame so you won't see the imprint.

I own a number of Repro (including Naruto ones) and Rilezu cels.
For me the answer to your question depends on which studio produced it. Since I'm not planning on selling these repro/rilezu cels, I care more for the state that they stay in rather then their market value.
For example, the first thing that I did with my Naruto cels was to:
(1) open the package
(2) Put the cel and the background in separate high quality cel bags
(3) Put both back in the original S.P. bag.
Up to this day, those cels have stayed in mint condition without any green print on them (which does tend to occur with those cels).
Another example was my Samurai Kyo Rilezu. I had to open that cel because the studio put an extra layer of acetate sheet behind the cel. I understand that the reason for that is so that the cel paint does not get stuck to anything else......but at the same time, having an extra layer could trap moisture in between the cels which could ultimately destroy the cel paint (I've seen examples of this in my friends collections). This happens over time regardless of how well you store the cels.
Ultimately, it also depends on who the buyer is if you're selling the cel at some point. For example, I could not care less if the rilezu/repro cel came in an opened studio bag as long as the cel is in great condition. A damaged Repro cel is completely unacceptable for me. Since there are at least five of each repro cel, you can always get your hands on a better one. Rilezu cels are more unique in that there is usually only one cel from a particular sequence. In that case the cel has to be damn good for me to consider buying it if it has been damaged, but even then I won't pay that much for it.
Hope this long reply helped you with your decision.
Cheers

Well if you don't open it, you won't see it. Right?kenshikenji wrote:those imprints really bug me.

I own several repros and rilezus. Every single one has been opened for scanning purposes and then immediately sealed back up. I say it's your choice. You see, I buy the repros and rilezus for the art NOT the resale value. I plan on keeping mine.

Can you hear this fangirl squee?!
