What Sailor Moon DVDs are good?

I wanted to buy the original Japanese version of season 1 with subtitles but which DVDs are correctly translated?

well...even with my poor understanding of japanese, I can tell the ADV dvds are not exact translations. I do think they try to keep the meaning though and when a joke involves word play they put the enlish alphabet version of the words involved in paretheses (if that makes any sense...). I haven't seen any other versions though, but that's my two cents...hope it helps a little and if you have questions about the ADV version I will gladly answer.

Oh and if anyone has an opinion on which second season dvds are good I'd appreciate any suggestions. The ADV is a bit pricey but i'm not sure about other versions.

The only official US release with subtitles was the ADV boxset so there isn't much choice on the legal side

I don't know much about the ADV version but I bought the boxsets of each season off ebay a while ago. They are in Japanese with english subtitles and they are quite fine. And they didn't cost much which was even better!

You can try cd japan they have all official Japanese releases of all sailor moon episodes. One dvd is around 30 US dollars and have 6 episode but I think they might not have subtitles.
