Free paintshop program? Help please!

Post by Remi »

Well, I am nearing the phase where I will open my gallery for offers. The last remaining problem is that a lot of my cels weren't online, and my hard-drive died taking all the scans with it. I have a scanner, but when my hard-drive went I also lost my copy of PaintShopPro and I don't have the disk anymore to reload it.

So does anyone know of a free, preferably downloadable, simple paint program that can handle scanning and saving in JPG? If it can crop out empty white space, even better.

Thanks for reading and I appreciate any and all suggestions. :)

Regards,

Remi ^_^

I think you can download a trial version of adobe photoshop. I have photoshop and I use it for scanning my cels. They save to a .jpg file.

Oh, you can use IrfanView for scanning too. IrfanView is an image program you can download for free. It's simple, can be used to touch up on images a little and also crops them. :)

I was just going to suggest the same thing. I use GIMP at work at the moment and Photoshop at home. While I prefer Photoshop, GIMP is pretty good too. :)

I Highly recommend the VCW VicMan's Photo Editor

You can get at dowload.com

http://www.download.com/VCW-VicMan-s-Ph ... ag=lst-0-1

I did try several and this is the only one so far that is working for me. Also you can always upgrade to a higher version if you like it later on which isn't free.

I like IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com/ ), but to me the images were loosing the quality in pixels. I tried working with the tools in the program but everytime I used them it seems to loose more and more the pixel quality and image started either looking like it was missing lines or it was very very unsharp.

I do miss my Adobe Photoshop a lot, which I lost due to the patch 2 from microsoft. I do have a Illustrator, but it isn't helping me with working with images or even scanning.

I use VCW VicMan's Photo Editor to scan images in, work with the images and all. Sometimes after having all done but not in the size I want I use Illustrator for that part since sometimes for oversized images it's better to use.

Anyway, good luck in finding a editor that you like working with.

As far as I remember, the downloadable (sp?) trial version of photoshop allows you to do a lot of things, but you can't save the image. Maybe it works different with the option of scanning?
