Not to worry ... I come from a town that is so afraid of people who speak foreign languages that they even passed a law making English the official language of the city. I have a friend, an immigrant from Romania, who has an excellent command of English, but because she has a discernible accent, people are always saying to her, "Speak English!"
Such people, IMHO, ought to be forced to spend a week in Montreal, where by law all the signs have to be in French.
I'm a nit-picker by profession, but hardly a linguist, though I know enough of a couple other languages to get myself in trouble.
Pardonnez-moi if I made you feel bad. I only wanted to be sure I understood you correctly.
Tu étais ma plus douce amie,
Mais je n'ai que faire des regrets.
(Well ... at least the second part is true ... you see what I mean about getting into trouble ... especially with those second-person pronouns.)
