As some know, I've been taking Muay Thai kickboxing for over a decade as a way to rehab my knee and keep it loose. In the past six months, I've been training at LA Boxing to learn MMA style fighting techniques and improve my ground game. Today, I had my first sparring match in 8 years. It was a safe match, with headgear and optional rib guards (which we opted out of). While it was not pretty, I did manage to win. It was better than I expected, because my win came via submission. I'm more of a stand up striker, so this was pretty cool. I got my oponent in a kimura and he tapped out (no, he was not a little kid either). Hard to explain a kimura, so here's a video of the technique. I did not do the flip because I am not that advanced. I locked it in from the guard position.
