or did DBZ cels drop significantly in price and are impossible to really sell anymore? I mean i know it was going down before but man i just went on ebay and no one is buying them, yet i still see animegame.com selling them for a crap ton.

I think most collectors are familiar with Animegame since they are a trusted seller and sometimes have better quiality cels, therefore their auctions get better bidding. Perhaps a smaller seller, such as me :P, do not get as many bids for their items since we are lesser known and bidders may not want to bid higher amounts due to there being lesser trust for the seller? This is my opinions since I've noticed this with auctions on eBay but I may be wrong. :shrug

Hi, Tim! I think Sugarflower is right... On Ebay you need a dedicated sellers account to get any amount like animegame has.

If you have to sell your collection right away, you'll never get that close.

You can make a Ebay Store and if you get enough good feedback, you can sell your DBZ cels for as much as animegame.

I think there are other reasons!

I have been watching DBZ Cels on eBay for about 5 years now, and like the previous posts say, it depends on the seller these days.
Animegame's Cels always get the most bids, no matter what is on the Cel, and ChaChaMaru's Cels go pretty fast too.
This week ChaChaMaru posted a Frieza ($50) and a Cell ($70) that both were gone in just a few hours.

I've also noticed that less DBZ Cels appear on eBay every year, perhaps because the sellers can't get enough money for them, or maybe they are just becoming harder to find. :o

I myself have never stopped buying Cels since I started, and I check eBay every single day. :)

I think it depends on the character and scene. There have been cels on mandarake and YJ recently that sold for less than $200 that I thought...."wow back in the day those would have gone for four figured easily!". Yet I have also scene some rare scenes pop up on YJ and go for insane amounts. 8O

Too many people selling right now. :(

That means that everyone has lots of choices if they have money. 8)

Lots of bargains and a bad time to be a seller

It has been my opinion that:

1.) People will only spend big $$$ on really cool DBZ cels that they've never seen before (i.e. on YJ, Mandy or through AnimeGame). After that it's like hand-me-downs throughout the community. The same cel (unless exceptional) rarely generates the same amount of excitement as "Oh my God, look at that Movie 12 or whatever cel on AG/YJ/Whatever. I think it has nothing to do with being a "dedicated seller," since if you had a huge pan cel of Gohan going ssj2 or something, people would probably still take a chance as long as you had some kind of feedback.

2.) eBay is the place where collectors here usually seem to dump their less than stellar cels. (at least for dbz)... while the good ones are sold privately between people in the community.

3.) The Dragonball series fad is over and the show has been dubbed for sometime, resulting in no one getting as excited about buying the cels... resulting in much much lower prices for items that would've fetched a purty penny in 2001/2004.

4.) I think the really damn awesome amazing cels still fetch good money, but still not what they could've a few years back.

I imagine that many collectors of cels from the DB series are satisfied with much of the art in their collection or just can't obtain the premium setups anymore because the biggest fans already own them and won't give them up.

I've not heard that the majority of art from DB was scrapped which indicates that tens of thousands of cels are/have been on the market. That ammount can satisfy a huge number of fans who have snapped up loads of juicy setups. When the B-grade cels are left, noone's interested in buying them so prices come down.

I'd even suggest that a large proportion of fans have lost interest in collecting art from this show so the demand isn't there. There's proof from some Betarians here selling their DBZ cels and the messages I read through the JACML.
It's tough deciding on what art to purchase when you love several series and assume people would opt to buy art from newer series because it recently captured their attention. Thus the DB art gets left on the shelf.

Please don't think I'm attacking DB art or its collectors, I'm in a similar boat with the series I collect too as these suggestions could be appropritated to many anime series.

Its interesting, you'd think with the high concentration of animes and cartoons now going digital, that actual cels using acetate and acrylic paints would be very rare and highly sought after.

Some animes after a while people loose interest in the anime and what probably takes it 's place as there favorite anime is a CG anime. I agree since they no longer make anymore cels so they should be worth more now then they did back in the day /hmm There are just some things that I don't get :P

Good Luck

High quality cel will still have their high price no matter what. Of course you can find a Majin V for 250 or 200 USD but a really nice shot will still be near the 4 digits or more. Like my 2 recent cel the Majin V hugg or the SSJ 2 Gohan cel, even if the market is down those cel were still pricey, of course less than it would have been 3 years ago.

Also the problem is that no one wants to loose money when it comes to sell cel so cels bought during 2003, 2004 are hard to sell at the same price, therefore remain on the gallery and hard to get.

but no matter what with DB even if you check the auction everyday it's cool to see some suprise...like this :

a nice surprise, yes. but as every dedicated YJ DBZ cel watcher noticed, these auctions did not sell at the current price the first go around and have been relisted. just another example of how the market has changed in past years.

There are 3 dbz rubberslug cels i would pay a total of $2000 if they are for sale. But i wont be spending $100 for random cels anymore. Maybe like everyone else, im start to get really picky since most of us been through buying frenzy and selling like mad syndrome.

Sometimes i feel a certain guilt of having thousand dollars worth of cels sitting in the dark for no reason when you can use your money for better things.

I always enjoyed animegame and mandarake updates because most new cels are one you never seen before. And it might still results to uncontrollable suitation where you suddenly urges to buy it.
