AnimeOnDVD website complaints?

Post by Keropi »

According to this AnimeSuki thread:

http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=68847

There was a message board thread on the AnimeOnDVD Forum with people complaining about the "changes" made to the former AnimeOnDVD website.

Can someone explain what people were complaining about there before they erased the thread? I'm very curious to know.

I haven't seen the thread you're talking about, but the change from animeondvd's old home page to the new "mania.com" home page sucked. The new page (as of last I checked, which was some time mid last week) is formatted very narrow. It only has a few words for each news item where on the old page the news items were the focus of the page and easy to read - now you have to click each one to read it. When the switch happened, there was a fansub review on the front page, which was a BIG no-no at AoD (a very anti-fansub site if ever there was one). And the adds weren't necessarily appropirate for the content - xxxholic had obscene porno adds which were automatically generated until someone complained and they manually fixed it. I haven't been back there for a few days, though, so I don't know what if any improvements have been made. Also, keep in mind, people generally hate change when change is forced on them, and when there weren't any problems with the original front page to make them needed.

AnimeOnDVD was one of the websites I looked at every day. I prefered them to Anime News Network because of the way they reviewed anime.

I don't like how the Mania page looks like either. I still look at that page each day, but I've only clicked links twice since they switched over. Eventually I might not care anymore and delete the link if it doesn't improve.

In the future I might stick to only the disparaging Anime News Network and word of mouth for my anime news (and maybe an anime blog).

FYI, the owner of ANN sold it in the past year also.

Thought I'd toss that out there.

I was suprised to learn last week that maintaining AoD took such a toll on his health. 8O

Makes me understand why he would want to sell it off like that.

Like the old "Guide to Japanese Animation Cels" website, I will always remember AoD with nostalgic, old-time memories. :l

Don't worry, Anime on DVD is only going through some growing pains right now. The forums (most people's biggest concern) were kept in tact as much as possible. There are things being fine tuned right now with the site as well. People have expressed reasonable concerns, and the powers that be are doing their best to make the changeover as painless as possible. If anyone is experiencing issues with the site, there is a section in the Animeondvd forums(feedback) to post about it :)
