So far I am really liking this series, and it seems to
be staying pretty true to actual history. With that
said:
It would seem that in one of the next few
episodes, Ito is going to be killed, which means that
Heisuke is going to be killed as well. :bawl
Do you guys think this will be the case?? That will
totally make me sad, as I really like his character. :O

Haven't seen the show, but just wanted to say thanks for feeding my already unhealthy obsession with the shinsengumi. XD

This doesn't seem to be available on Netflix yet. How are you getting the show?

I wonder why with DB's version I can't see the video. The screen is black. Someone I know is using the same setup and player I am and it still doesn't show. I tried erasing and redownloading the drivers, but that didn't work either. It's all very odd.

You might want to try downloading the latest divx codec. That usually solves the problem for me.

Heisuke is actually one of my favorite Shinsengumi (a rumored good looking young man, an illegitimate son of a feudal lord)... He is typically glossed over in most Shinsengumi related stories. He is always the one charging into battles and likes to take the initiative thus his name "Sagikake Sensei" (forerunner teacher). I think with the premise of the show and how they handled Sannan (Yamanami) I'd be most surprised if the anime follows history in this regard.

The anime should be commended not only for it's artwork but also for how much research they did and how they tried to fit the history into the story. I bet they were also catering to the new history fangirl's in Japan. There was a term for them.... I can't recall at the moment.

The show isn't without faults however... I am seeing a lot of "telling" instead of showing. I hate the way time/pacing is being handled, excruciatingly slow at times and then glossing over some important events. I really don't think this show should've been limited to 13 episodes. Looking at the pacing there is absolutely no way they can get to the others story, I bet they will stick to Hijikata when it gets to Seinan (-if- it even gets to that point). I really wish they'd made this into a 24 episode series. It felt choppy at certain points and the emotional pull is sometimes not there. Still though... It's a decent series, my only disappointment is it could've been so much better. But ummm my understanding really is that the anime was created more for publicity for the games (just like anime is created for manga). Considering that the production values are good and the art fantastic.

As I told a certain someone this weekend, I don't watch things to learn history lessons. I watch for entertainment. And I'm certainly entertained watching this series. I'm sorry. I'm so side-tracked with the bishie goodness that I forgot there was even a plot. No joke! I was trying to explain the series and couldn't. X| :emb

Heisuke is my favorite. He's so light-hearted, kind, loyal and strong. I would definitely try to be his friend if I were living back then. My second fave is Hajime because . . . YUM! :drool And since I'm tangeting for Gonzai's orginal question, I'll continue with Toshizo being my third fave. He's so kind to Chizuru and all the guys. How could I not like him?
Can you hear this fangirl squee?!

I don't think there's anything to be sorry about, whether watching for history lessons or entertainment. I don't think it greatly matters which one. Although I do think knowing a little greatly enriches the experience. It is hard to separate history and the Shinsengumi however... Just like it's going to be hard to separate Shinsengumi from fiction or at least the merchandise. LOL.

Ok, that is understandable. There is certainly some pretty
boys in this show. :drool

I couldn't agree with you more. It all seems quite choppy to me. I
think they are doing a good job of staying true to history, however,
the pacing is quite frustrating. I actually preferred Peacemaker
Kurogane's storyline better, but this is pretty good as well. :o

I do agree with Kizu, though. There is no way, in 13 episodes,
that they will ever be able to get through all the character's
storylines. I am sure they will stick to Hijikata and Chizuru. That
is kind of disappointing, as I would have liked to see other
character storylines play out as well. :?

Still - the eye candy makes all that easy to forget. :love2

Okay, I should add that my sense of humor doesn't translate well sometimes when I write. I wasn't really apologizing. That's just how I talk. I thought it was very humorous that y'all are talking about all this history and I'm sitting there going "really?" :rollin It cracks me up but I am sort of out of it nowadays anyway. The bishie eyecandy has been a good distraction from my sorrows. /ok I didn't even remember their names that's how out of it I am. I had to open a second window with their pictures and names next to each other. I thought about using AO's sig to describe my faves since she has all 3 in it. :sweatdrop

I've been watching it on nwanime as it gets released and it's looking like y'all are right about Heisuke judging by how episode #10 ended. :bawl

Hey DT...I have to look up half the names too. *but I'm getting better on them* I'm watching it for the bishie goodness. The history is a plus.

LOL. No worries. Just making sure you enjoy the show the way you want to. There's a lot of names to remember although Hakuouki doesn't have as much characters. You are right about Heisuke's character though (he is a nice and very skilled guy and rumored good looking too) I was really hoping this show would tell his story a bit more than it being more of an after thought. He is after all in my top five right up there with Hijikata.

Hmmm and since I'm rambling here I might as well ramble a bit more... My favorite Shinsengumi ranked are: 1) Saitou 2) Kondou 3) Hijikata 4) Heisuke 5) Serizawa (although since there is no Serizawa here, I'd say Nagakura for Hakuouki)

Oh and I don't like Souji as much in this one I suppose I'm used to the nicey nice Souji... So having a snarky one isn't doing it for me, but then again I've never been a big fan of Souji (I like him though but not as much as the others).
