Before watching the movie i thought it was going to be like the Air movie, i mean, a retelling of the same story of the series.
How mistaken i was.
While the movie and the series share many common aspects their plot varies in many key aspects.
For example, i would say that the personalities of Nagisa and Tomoya are swapped in the movie. Nagisa is the cheerful one while Tomoya is the shy one that lets himself be carried away by the cheerful Nagisa.
Some characters from the series don't appear on the movie, (the movie was done earlier than the series, so more characters were added for the series to have more plots). But for once, Sunohara has in the movie a more active role than in the series.
The drama club solo act at the festival is done perfectly in the movie by an awesome Nagisa. And the climax scene when Tomoya realizes that Nagisa and himself are having the same dream and he declares to her...... that's the best of the entire movie.
The rest of the movie, well, what can i say, that's the reason i'll probably never watch the movie ever again..... Don't misunderstand me, it's a perfectly well done ending, but sad stories make me feel depressed for longer time than i would like, specially when i really love the characters. At least, the very end is happy when Tomoya catches Ushio on his arms and she calls him "papa".
So, what's better, the movie or the series?... Difficult question. Trying to see this from an objective perspective i really believe that the movie is better. But of course the series has many more plots that are not present on the movie. (i guess those extra plots were extracted from the game but i can't be sure o that as i have not played the game). As for the music, i prefer the versions of the op/ed songs in the series, and of course the graphics of the series are better.
Anyone would like to share their thoguhts on this one?
