To Heart and Daa Daa Daa... Anyone Seen These?

Post by LinaLoN »

I have seen SOOO many CUTE cels of little cuties from Daa Daa Daa and I'm wondering if anyone has heard of it and know anything about the show?

Also, about To Heart. I'm hearing that it's a good series but I don't know ANYTHING about it. Does anyone know about this series?

My cat Seeley is a Sailor Moon fan, too!

I didn't anticipate on having a black female cat and a white male cat or I would have named them Luna and Artemis... oh well.

Daa Daa Daa is an odd little series about a middle school (I think?) girl and boy who end up living together with an alien baby. I didn't like what I saw of it, but then I also didn't like Urusei Yatsura, and that one's hugely popular.

To Heart is a *very* slow slice-of-life anime that's basically about an eclectic group of high school students. It's based on a bishoujo game that's generally considered the best. I enjoyed this one a lot. I recommend it if you liked Kanon.

Yeah...I consider the first To Heart series to be like an idealized, nostalgic look at attending a Japanese High School. The anime is similar to the game in that the characters get up, go to school, put their outside shoes in the shoe locker, dance around the bonfire at the school festival and do all the regular things that Japanese high schoolers are supposed to do (in an idealized world).

I didn't care too much for the second "To Heart ~ Remember My Memories" TV series. The second series was more like a melodrama about Multi. The boxing match in the second series felt out of place to me too.

I watched a few episodes of the first To Heart anime series and while I liked
the character designs, the series itself bored me to tears. I finally gave up
on it. It was one of those series where I've been tempted to pick up cels
from as I like the character designs. But I haven't been able to talk myself
into because I just can't justify spending money on a show I didn't like.

Though, I ended up picking up a volume of the To Heart manga for
cheap and actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Bit weird as they have similar
storylines, but subtle differences in the execution which I liked better. I've
been watching the second To Heart anime series and it's been enjoyable.
Nothing spectactular, but definitely worth watching.

I watched just one episode of Daa Daa Daa and didn't enjoy it enough to
watch any more. The character designs were ok, but the story didn't tempt
me enough to continue watching.

Yeah I held off watching To Heart for a longtime because the tape fansubbers decided to stick only 2-3 episodes on a tape so that they could make more money off of each tape. I rented the first raw tape with the first two episodes on it and found it rather boring.

I missed a lot of cels because of that.

Then a few years later I tried watching it again because I had the avi fansubs by that point. I still find the first four episodes rather slow, but I think it picks up after that. The Tomoko episode was rather slow too, but I still like the series. The romantic part of the story was pretty understated. You had to read between the lines to understand what was going on there at the very end. A lot of unstated dialog going on. :D

I get what you mean. I found Hiroyuki in the anime to be a pretty much
unsympathetic character and really didn't like him very much. The manga
did a better job of presenting him as a good guy and likeable character.
When you don't like the main character, it makes it hard to enjoy a series.
One of these days, I may give the original series a try again and I'll
probably enjoy it more knowing more about the characters from the manga.

Well... I am a freak on Daa! Daa! Daa! I collect the cels, Phonecards and the shitajiki for it as well as furoku when I can get them. I have watched all that is availible for it from the fansubbers to date. IMHO I truly like it. I think it's a very cute series if you are into this "Cute" type series. Nothing serious about it just fun and silly. And the colors! OMG the Colors in the series! WAAAAAAAAAH! I have a thing for colors and cute characters... Lots of people I know do not get into this series but then again everyone is different and I love those "cutsie" shows...

To Heart I have not tried to watch I don't think...

I've only seen Daa Daa Daa. It's as adorable as the cels and much too saccharine for my taste - but SC is a looong way from being alone in loving the ultra innocent quality. For a few added details, you can click here. And if you're curious enough to want to download it, AonE is doing the fansubs.

On YJ I bought a cel of a cute white rabbit thingy pigging out in a bowl of rice complete with chopsticks! I had no clue what it was but got it since it was so cute!

Later someone informed me it was from Da Da Da. I got the fansubs, but I have yet to watch them yet. I have to wait until I'm in a silly mood I guess.

I was kind of hoping that my local Suncoast would carry the second volume on of the To Heart manga, but they've always only stocked the first volume.

But just judging the first To Heart manga volume on its own, the manga is a lot more comedic, faster paced and wacky than the anime. The manga to me felt like a semi-parody of the games characters and events. The events that were in the game that were semi-real lifelike became the target of jokes in the manga. The tone of the manga is very different from the anime so I wouldn't judge the anime based off manga exposure alone. Sometimes the first To Heart manga felt a little like the anime series omake parody segments.

The only three manga I've ever purchased was the first To Heart volume and two volumes of the Sentimental Graffiti manga. I'm trying to avoid getting into another expensive, time-consuming hobby. :D

The To Heart game is kind of fun. There's at least two times that you and Akari, Shiho and Masashi go to the arcade and you play against them (two different arcade games). You decide who you want to play against. Then you see them play the game and see what kind of score they get. I didn't practice the games very much so the only person I was able to beat out of the three was Akari. :?

It's funny because if you choose to play against Akari she gets an agonized and depressed look on her face because she knows she's not a very good video game player. Then if you don't play the game very well and don't beat her score she gets very happy. Masashi is better than Akari, but Shiho is the best. I wish I could beat her score just to see what kind of reaction she has. :P

Oh no, does that qualify as fully "cute"?! I thought I could justify liking it so much because it's a little, uh... dark. :P
