What's the deal with the Ah My Goddess series??
I recently noticed AMBU doing subtitles for the New Ah My Goddess show. Now, I have not seen ALL of the previous TV series, but the story in this one seems similar. Am I completely clueless? What's with the new release and why would the storyline be the same as the previous one? Or is it that I have not watched all of it to know the difference? I'm confused . . .

There is some overlap between the TV series and the OVA (esp. the second episode), but there's a lot of new stuff in the TV series too. I'm not familiar at all with the Ah My Goddess manga, but as I understand it the main "in-the-past" storyline of the OVA didn't even take place in the manga so that would mean that the ending of the TV series will be different from the OVA.
I didn't enjoy episodes 1 and 3 that much, but I enjoyed episodes 2 and 4. Maybe I'll only like "even" numbered episodes of this series.
Isn't Issei Futamata doing the voice of the blonde haired sempai guy? It's nice to hear his voice again (Godai in Maison Ikkoku) after all these years. He's just about fifty years old now.

The artwork also resembles that of the movie much more closely than that of the original TV show. It's REALLY nice.
I had the same thought... something along the lines of "why the heck are you trying to update a classic?" But hey, Ted Turner got rich colorizing movies, why not these guys by doing better artwork.
It's enjoyable, regardless.

The previous OVA series was very short, which is both a plus and a minus.
The plus is that they definitely hit the highlights of the early part of the
manga without having to do some of the not so great part. The minus is
that it was relatively short and quick.
The TV series is taking a more detailed approach to the show. For example,
the first episode of the OAV series basically starts shortly before Belldandy
shows up. The TV series starts off with a look at Keichi's everyday life and
how unlucky, but kind-hearted he was and the first episode actually ends
with Belldandy just showing up. The OAV series definitely follows the original
manga closer than the TV series does. However, the TV series seems to be a
bit more logically structured. It's different enough from the OVA series that
I think it can be enjoyed even if you have seen it or read the manga.
So far, I'm enjoying it. I really liked the first episode of the OVA series, but
the rest kinda left me flat. It seemed to be an odd mixture of comedy and
romance, but not enough of either to hook me. The TV series so far
definitely has a more consistent tone so far. However, I have to say...
Adventuers of the Mini-Goddess is still far and away my favorite of any
of the AMG shows so far. Gan-chan rules!

I wouldn't say they are reproducing the storyline, more like they are filling in the blanks between the ova episodes, making it a little more consistant with the later manga and movie (ie having Holy Bell make her apperance earlier) and then charging off with the manga storylines. I'm mildly tempted to re-read the manga to see how close they stick to it, but I think I'll just enjoy what they are doing currently and save my picking it over until after it's donestar-phoenix wrote:You mean they are going to completely reproduce it and keep the storyline the same? That sounds kinda . . . .well . . . STUPID!! Why waste that kind of money on it? They should have just worked on a different story line. But, that's only my opinion. I am still going to be watching it.
