Inuyasha Movie or Series first?

Post by ladyhipoo »

:elephant Well I now have the dvd's for Inuyasha both the series and the movie.
My question is which should I watch first?
I ask because I watched X the movie first and it took a while before I was willing the watch the series because the movie was so confusing!
I only gave the series a shot because several people told me it was worth watching and not confusing as the movie.
With Utena I watched the series first (Thank Heavens) because I LOVED the series but hated the movie.
With Tenchi Muyo I loved the OVA :love2 but didn't get into the series.

So which would you recommend I watch first?
Thanks :)

I voted for the tv series since it actually follows a timeline. The first movie didn't come out until after season 2. After season 2, you actually know all the characters in the movie (except the new demon) really well. By the time movie 2 came out, the middle of season 4, there is a major plot device being used in the tv series that's incorporated into the second movie from the beginning. I think if you're not at least somewhat familiar with the tv series, you'll be lost with the movies.

I have but haven't watched yet the third movie. It came out in the middle of season 6. I'm watching that season now. I'm up to episode 133 and the movie came out after 136 aired.

ditto! What they said :D :D :D

I actually enjoy the tv series better than the movies.
Thou the animation in the movie and art style is 3X nicer than the anime, but as far as story goes.. ehh..
not too blown away by the movies.

Another ditto. :^^: The series introduces the characters, shows how they met and explains their quest and motivations. As duo said, the movies would make very little sense without the background information, so yeah... series first and watch the movies between the approximate episodes when they were released.

Same as above :), watch the series first to get to know the story and the characters :D.

If you want to know who the characters are, the watch the series first. The movies have little to no character development.

What they said!!! :D

I personally think the movies would be INCREDIBLY confusing without the TV series. I've been holding off on the third movie until I get past a certain point (and it looks like that point is 136! :P Thanks Duotrouble!).

Like everyone said, not much time to get you up to speed in the movies and there's some stuff that would be spoiled in the series if you watched the movies first X|

Seeing a couple of the tv episodes seems like good call as they establish the main characters.

The Doctor : … and then, just to finish off, I’m going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky !
Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

Glad I could help! :D In case you were wondering, I got that information off a website I have bookmarked. I'm really not that good when it comes to remembering exact episode numbers.
