I've been watching Champloo and am currently up to episode 15; in ep 13 "Dark Nights Road" when Mugen is on the ship with Mukuro the music playing is a loop of the first four bars from "It's a New Day" by THE SKULLSNAPS. (705kb MP3 sample)
I love listening out for music samples and it's great to be able to pick some out from other films/songs etc. Even though Hip Hop is littered with the Skullsnaps/Honeydrippers/Apache/Whoo Yeah/Funky Worm breaks...
Another sound I recognized was from the video game Tenchu 3 (78kb MP3) which I later heard as a 'suspense' symbol in the 2002 Japanese film Tokyo Eleven. Must be a preset synth sound! heh heh
Have you heard any music samples in anime, games or music which sound similar to exisiting works?

Out of the gloom a voice said unto me;
"Smile and be happy, things could be worse".
So I smiled and was happy
and behold;
things did get worse...

Well..there's some music during the Gravitation TV series that I KNOW I've heard before.
You can listen to it here:
Melting Noise
I just know where to place it though...

Hmmm, I'm not too clued up on (Acid) Jazz but I wonder if that Gravitation music is inspired by Grant Green or Donel O'Levy, a couple of renouned guitarists in this field. It has the same feel as their traditional stuff. I know there are plenty of Jazz fans in Japan so I wouldn't be surprised if this was an original music track by a local band, maybe there's a Gravitation CD booklet out there with more info?
