General Anime Questions

Post by Keropi »

I would like your comments on these anime. I've been wondering how these anime turned out for awhile. None of my real-life friends are into these anime so I am unable to ask them about them.

Anime I haven't watched:

1. How is Major? Is it good?

2. Anybody watching Peach Girl?

3. Anybody see Sakura Wars: Le Nouveau Paris?

4. How is Meine Liebe?

5. How is Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha?

6. How was Madlax?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anime I watched one or two episodes of, but never got back to:

7. How did Fantastic Children turn out?

8. How was Gankutsuou? Was it worth retelling The Count of Monte Cristo in such an unorthodox fashion?

9. Did Sunabozu ever get to be good? :P

10. Is anyone still watching Monster?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anime I seen 4 to 8 episodes of, but never got back to:

11. Did Samurai Seven live up to it's billing?

12. How is Tsukuyomi Moon Phase going? What is the revealed main storyline about?

13. How was Samurai Champloo's first season?

14. How did Kurau Phantom Memory turn out? What happened at the end?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Question:

15. Did Akane Maniax OVA 2 ever get released? I haven't been keeping track of raws. :(

2. Anybody watching Peach Girl?

I watched one episode and said "so what"? The characters are beautiful, but I couldn't get into it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. How did Fantastic Children turn out?

There's a few episodes yet to come out on fansub but it's excellent. You have to just go with the flow during the first part, where you may be tempted to say WTF? and leave it, but wow does it ever pick up. Between the very different character design and the really interesting story line it's worth the effort. (anxiously waiting to see what happens myself...)

8. How was Gankutsuou? Was it worth retelling The Count of Monte Cristo in such an unorthodox fashion?

OMG it's so wonderful. Granted, I've not read the story but it is fabulous. There's one episode yet to be released and I am going NUTS waiting for it.

***************

The rest of your list I haven't gotten to yet. There are days when I wonder whether I'll live long enough to watch all the anime I have here but haven't watched yet. :?

Lets see.......

2- Peach Girl: Nice graphics, nice music, but well, the plot gives me the creeps. I just can't stand that supposed "friend" trying to steal her friends' boyfriends with such obvious and stupids plans...... watched until ep 8 and i still don't know how come i didn't stop sooner.

5- Nanoha: only watched the 2 first episodes.... It seemed the typical magical girl series.... not my type.

6- Madlax: Don't be fooled, besides the good music and the nice looking girls, this anime is nothing.... nothing at all.... (and i even watched it entirely expecting it to have a great plot behind)

7- Fantastic Children: Ah, this is one that i recommend you. It starts slow but towards ep 8 or so it starts a great plot.

10- Monster: Definately a masterpiece. Highly recommended for everybody, even though i think they shold have make it a little shorter, at least on the anime version.

11- Samurai Seven: So so. Definately it doesn0t live up to the name.

12- Tsukuyomi: I normally don't like this type of series, but i like this one. And the plot seems to be good. Don't want to spoil it to you with more details.

13- Samurai Champloo: One of those series that it's ussually very popular and that people likes a lot.... but that i just don't like. (it also happened to me with cowboy bebop)

14- Kurau: Another very nice series. The ending is well done and realistic even though it's not the "happy ending" that everybody would like.

15- Akane: wan't it just released a few days ago? I'm not sure as i don't keep much attention tothis series.

Ah i really like these kind of posts :)

4. Meine Liebe is Utena crossed with FMA crossed with... something shounen-ai and scrumptious. Personally, I love it. The animation is gorgeous, too.

I'd like to get some info on Gankutsou too, I just paid for a HK copy to see what it looks like. Has this been licensed?

Monster is incredible, one of the best so far. Can't wait to see it all.

Samurai Champloo will be on Adult Swim in May along with Paranoia Agent. So far at episode 14, I like it, but it might not be for everyone.

2- Peach Girl- I love the manga. I'll admit that. And therefore, I have a horrible, secret addiction to the show. However, I'll be the first to tell you that it's awful. The animation is very much hit-or-miss, and the plot never, ever has a quiet spot. They've gone through 12 volumes of manga in ten episodes. It just feels manic and unfinished. Kiley, however, is wonderful.

4- Meine Liebe- I've seen the first six episodes and can't find more. But I love it! So many pretty, pretty boys, and a fairly intricate political background. Plus, watching it makes me go, "Buh? What're Roy and Hughes doing here? Huh, Anthy? Hey! Suddenly it turned into Peacemakes Kurogane!"

Gankutsuou- Oh my gods. Can't explain it. Just watch it. It's... it's the Count of Monte Cristo. In SPACE. The graphics are, well, gorgeous, though some people claim they can't watch more than an episode without getting dizzy. Everything's colored with screentones, so the only solid blocks of color are the character's faces. It's bizarre and wonderful. Also, the Count himself is just a fascinating character (we've decided he's schizophrenic) And... and... gah. Watch it.

2. Anybody watching Peach Girl? Yes, it's terrible. I was quite disappointed.

4. How is Meine Liebe? Let's put it this way, it's basically Utena (except with men)...and everyone is wearing variations of the Full Metal Alchemist military uniforms.

8. How was Gankutsuou? My eyes - they burn! Too many fill colors!

13. How was Samurai Champloo's first season? You should watch the rest of it!

I'm watching it on HK DVDs with very strange subtitles, esp. character names (Macy Melon?). But I find it extremely entertaining in the way that it starts with absolutely no orientation and very little backstory and just keeps rollin' on. It's the only anime that I've gotten my notoriously anime-hating wife to watch.

One sign: in the last Newtype it debuted in the "Greatest anime of all time" poll at #7. I think that's a crock, as this poll is strongly tilted toward male-dominant big-mecha series: all the Gundam clones are on the top 20 list. Still, it shows that it's made a huge splash in Japan.

Sadly, I'm bit-torrent-challenged (due to my laptop being owned by a litigation-nervous university that checks it regularly to see if I've been sharing files), so I can't speak to the rest, though I'm starting Tsukuyomi Moon Phase and enjoyed the introductory eps.

I love the manga so I thought I would love the anime. I've watched one episode so far and haven't bothered watching anymore. I keep meaning to watch more, but I never get around to it. The first episode left me feeling kind of "blah."
13. How was Samurai Champloo's first season?
Love it! But I love the second season even more! /lv

That sounds very familiar. Did someone else here say the same thing about Madlax a few months ago?
darksuzaku wrote: 12- Tsukuyomi: I normally don't like this type of series, but I like this one. And the plot seems to be good. Don't want to spoil it to you with more details.
Gotta love the "Nekomimi Mode-o" :D
darksuzaku wrote: 13- Samurai Champloo: One of those series that it's ussually very popular and that people likes a lot.... but that i just don't like. (it also happened to me with cowboy bebop)
It was a bit too episodic for me at the beginning. I tend to like anime more that feels as if they're developing something long term. How long did it take before a main storyline was developed?
darksuzaku wrote: 14- Kurau: Another very nice series. The ending is well done and realistic even though it's not the "happy ending" that everybody would like.
It seemed like an interesting series. It's too bad I lost track of it.

I'm going to have to try to track it down. I don't find the hot blooded guy very amusing, but I've always been an Akane Suzumiya fan. :D

So how does it rate on the shounen ai meter on a scale of 1 to 10? :sweatdrop

I don't see it listed anywhere as being picked up for R1. I only see articles about Media Factory requesting the series not be fansubbed.

None of you liked the anime adaption of the manga eh? It's like how none of the Negima manga fans like the Negima anime. :^^:

Geez. Can I ever tell I'm coming down with a crud. Not only was I off-kilter last night when I wrote that but I'm doing this edit to erase an even stupider miscalculation.

I'll add my two bits in to saying that Monster is worth watching. Though I will admit that it can be quite slow going at times, so it probably will not sit with everyone.

Gankutsuou is most definitely worth watching :) though it does take an episode or two to get use to the art style and fast changes of colors. The style really took hold with me after seeing the way they animated Haydee's dress at the opera. And they somehow successfully twist together a classic story of romance, betrayal and hierarchy all the while throwing in space travel and a few mechs that look like Escaflowne guymelefs. 8O
