Saving people and cels
Recently there have been more and more people who are selling their cels because of dire circumstances requiring money. It is very sad to see loved collections depleted for money in such a manner.
Here is my solution: We could make the bank of Anime-Beta or BAB for short. Everybody pays $5 a month and it goes into a dedicated savings account. When members need help and selling their collection is the option to solve their dilemma then they can hit up the BAB and make a withdrawl. The only think the monetarily bankrupt party of the transaction has to do is pay back the money when they can, or surrender some cels for ebay action.
My mind is always thinking. Maybe this is a bad idea.

There will always be someone ready to take advantage of other's goodwill and scam such a system. (ex. see ebay daily rants) Anyrate you do have a point though. Saving for a rainy day is always a good thing. I'd sooner burn some savings and have to put collecting on hold for a bit vs selling a chunk of my collection. Circumstances vary though, sometimes dire can mean quite a bit of money. Few things can truly be prepared for in life when so many variables are not in anyone's control. So my advice, savings account or a handy jar. Jar's tend to be less secure though.

Having just done this, I can tell you it sucks to sell things you love to fund other things you love.
But, that said, as much as it hurt to see my cels go (especially my Hiei and my Nicodemus drawing
) I wouldn't have sold them if my dog hadn't been more important to me. Plus, I picked which ones to cel based on how much I liked them and my likelihood of collecting any more in the future!
I would feel AWFUL taking advantage of the kindness of my cel collecting friends, even if it was a loan, and I would probably rather sell the cels to them than ask for help outright. But I'm just weird and pride-y like that
It's an awfully sweet idea though! *hugs*

It's a nice and thoughtful idea, and in a caring society this would be so beneficial.
But reality sinks in...selfish and inconsiderate people will take advantage of this and it will fall apart and money will be lost. It happens all the time. In the shroud of good there is always bad...greedy and manipulative people will always try to find a way around the system.
I try to think that cel collectors aren't greedy, but I've been proven wrong on many accounts. I've seen people lose money, lose cels, lose both and leave the hobby. I guess there really is no way to check to see if everyone would be honest and loyal to this idea, but I believe the risks outweigh the benefits.
I do love your idea though, but too many people will abuse it, I just know it. Not everyone in the cel collecting hobby is honest, so you can expect it to be abused. That's just my $0.02 though.

I agree completely with SME. I think that is a very nice and kind idea, but like some have said, there are bound to be a minor few who will take advantage of the system, making arguments break out. And there could also be people who forget to pay back, or can't pay back because of other circumstances that occur etc.

Well I do think this would be a good idea, but I do agree with alot of the other people. Some people might not end up paying the money back and we all would be screwed then.
But I was also thinking. Why dont we do it like the Deputy service does. If you dont have the money paid back by like a month or 2 however much money youve taken gets charged to your credit card. We'd have to come up with an agreement and everything so that could happen without us going to jail for charging money to a credit card/bank account. But I think thats a good idea.
Also have it to were you can only use the money if youve donated some money, and have stated that you understand the agreement. Otherwise we could be out money or get sued
Dont know..just an idea

Its an interesting idea, and a very considerate thought. The only issue would be the one dishonest person who takes advantage of it. I'd like to think that everyone is trustworthy until proven otherwise, but expierience says that there's always one person that seems to live just to create mistrust.....
...But again I think it's a great idea, thinking about how I value my collection....I hate to think it may one day go to paying off the necessary bills (which the school bills seem like a very real possability)...

Take their cels for collateral. Itd be more like a pawnshop than a bank. Its prob abit more safer that way. They wont lose their cels, but theyd have to really pay the beta pawnshop back before getting their precious back. Everyone values cels differently, so the shareholders appraise the piece, and loan them the amount theyre worth. If its not paid off in a timely manner, it gets put out on display in the shop.
