Voted both. This was one of the two anime my friend dropped off at my house looooong ago... when VHS was the only media... and they were fansubs. *sigh* Seems like last year...

Although I hunted the seven corners of the mall for a copy of the DVD set (with figure) I haven't watched it yet. >.< This post reminded me that the box set is looking at me every night waiting to be opened.

I've seen the movie and received and extensive crash course about the series.
The movie as downright beautiful and the series has more interesting characters than you can shake a stick at. (assuming you're into that.) :D

The Doctor : … and then, just to finish off, I’m going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky !
Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

I seen the Escaflowne TV series on fansub tape from Hecto, Silverwynd and Studio Kakyouin. I seen one episode of the altered and edited US TV aired version. :hurt:

I seen the Escaflowne Movie over at it's Anime Expo premiere, but had a hard time seeing it due to the room being packed and having to look between everyone's heads. X|

I liked both, but not enough ever rewatch either one.

Escaflowne, wow, brings back memories. I love the series. Rewatched many times. Never watched the crappy TV Series after hearing a preview of it in English....Ugh.

I had to watch the movie several times until I found that I really liked the movie for it's own style. Still can't stand the english version. All Subs for me. The emotions in the japanese voices just does it for me.

Love this anime!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I thought you meant him, just wanted to be sure :)

But Nobuteru Yuki did do the character designs for the TV series...

I don't really agree with you there, just look at the several Nobuteru genga books out there and you'll see he most definitely was involved.
Especially when looking at the gorgeous high end cels used in the OP and Ending of the TV series.

Personally I am glad the TV series and movie differ, that way we get the best of both worlds.

But I guess that's personal ne?

Hmmm ... :? Well, I guess I'm not the average fan, because I liked the TV series character designs and artwork much better than the movie. I eventually liked the movie, too ... but it took some time for it to grow on me.

As far as changing things about the TV series ... the one thing that jumps out at me is the ending. I just didn't like the way it ended, and I have to admit I was hoping for something different than what we got. So, I would definitely change that.

I have seen both and disliked some parts of both but overall I enjoyed it.
Most Bishies are eyecandy therefore they must all be attractive for the females. One Problem though Can we have MORE LEGAL eyecandy??

I watched Escaflowne on VHS man! Back in the day. I must have seen it for the first time at least 5 or 6 years ago. And I watched it all in one day with my friend Heather. All 26 episodes. Which is probably all you can watch in a 15 hour period. We laughed, we cried ... it was loads of fun. We haven't been able to do it since Escaflowne though.

I've also seen the movie. I must say I like the art style in the movie much better.

weyrlady wrote:Oh, man. So spending money on painted plastic automatically makes us professional art critics? Please. This is both elitist and offensive. You come off as incredibly condescending. You're fetishizing one small subset of a group, and condemning the rest of it on little to no basis.

Collecting cels doesn't automatically mean you have refined taste. It doesn't mean you automatically go for aesthetically pleasing anime. It most CERTAINLY doesn't mean we pay any more attention to "the character development, plot, music, et al" than the average viewer.

"Let's be honest." Being a cel collector means we're willing to spend money on the anime we watch.
Thank you, weyrlady for saying that. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I am glad somebody posted something.

I did not want to add any more fuel to the fire (it seems I "bite" too many times, people are starting to notice :D), but I am certainly glad I was not the only one who felt this way :)

There's nothing wrong with having a strong opinion about something, but keep in mind there are a lot of people who might not share your ideas. If you undeniably state your own vision to be the only correct one, you can be sure you'll meet resistance.

Thanks, guys. Sometimes I can't keep my mouth shut. ^^;

Uende, you and me both! There's nothing wrong with being... well, I'm not sure I can use the particular word on this forum. Strongly opinionated? Very sure of one's self? Willing to stand up for what you believe in?

I love Nobuteru's work. A few episodes here and there are lacking in the artwork category, but they are few and far in-between.

Hitomi seems to be the least favorite character with everyone because of her design. I happen to like Hitomi's design.

The reason why you don't see more Esca collectors any more is that there are hardly ANY good cels out to buy. Most were bought up a long time ago. A few nice ones pop up every now and then, but rarely. I was lucky enough to FINALLY...AFTER 7 YEARS....able to snag a Van OP cel. 7 Years! That's how often quality cels pop up, and when they do...They go for a pretty penny. 4-5 years a go there was a lot of quality movie and TV cels popping up all the time. Wish I had money to snag some, but didn't. They were QUALITY. Now, only a handful of people even have a quality Esca collection. Lizzard, Curt, Morgan, and Nathalie have about the best Esca collections out there. Webdeb had the most incredible Folken's I've ever seen, but she left collecting a few years ago.

Just recently re-watching Esca for the 3rd time a month ago...With all the anime new and old I've seen...It is still one of the best. The art and storyline still hold strong today =).

Just my 2 cents.
