I'm going to write a hallmark movie in your honor using your story :D

That is so great to hear a "niceguy" winning in the end, and I can't think of anyone else who deserves something like this better. Congrats!

Sooo incredibly jealous! Congrats on getting a job that you will love and get to work with your favorite author's writings! Like blueheaven said, you're one of the few who gets such an opportunity!

Many congratulations, Baakay! I remember from better days being able to work in a center like this (for Hawthorne, though most of the materials were copied from other, more impressive archives). The nice thing is that after you work with the actual day-to-day materials, you eventually get a sense of how the man actually thought. That's eerie ... and leads to spooky insights.

You certainly deserve it with all your work in the trenches.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Thanks, everyone!! Now if I can just survive the wait for them to get someone else into MY job...

Michener isn't actually my *favorite* author (that would be a close fight-out between Mercedes Lackey, Stephen Donaldson, and L.E. Modesitt), but I've never read any of Michener's books that I didn't enjoy.

I actually got to catalog some of the book collection a few years back, which used to be kept in a special room that someone thought looked like his old office. (Trust me, it didn't). These were all translations, and the challenge was to discover WHAT LANGUAGE THEY WERE IN!! /heh So I have actually added records to the international databse for books in Thai, and Czech, and several other languages that I don't speak. Thank god for international students... :-)

One of the little beasties awaiting proper treatment -- his dentures.

I kid you not.

Do you believe in God ?

Funny you should ask me that question, Cloud, as I was just discussing this very issue with my kids today.

I believe that I am not a wise enough person to have an intelligent opinion on what might be or might not be. How's that?

The update... *sigh* *heavy sigh*

Post by Baakay »

It's funny how just this morning I was explaining to Klet how no, it's not that unusual for job changes internally to take forever here... blah blah blah.

And I just learned -- unofficially -- that my colleague from elsewhere HAS accepted my job (which I kinda knew because she wrote asking if I was available for lunch on the 11th)...

... but that she won't start until April 2006. :bawl

five... more.... months...
