tv series vs movie

Post by duotrouble »

Since there was a little discussion about this on another thread, I thought it might be fun to do a poll. So which do you like better? Escaflowne's movie or the tv series?

I'm all about the tv series. First, it's longer. I always need more anime. Second, I like the brighter animes compared to the darker ones. That's why my gallery only has tv cels in it.

Don't get me wrong! I enjoyed both but my perference does lean heavily towards the tv series. 8)

How about everyone else?

Even though the artwork in the movie was a lot better, I prefer the TV due to the stronger storyline.

The short length of the movie made some of what was going on very confusing and disjointed. This might have been because I saw the movie before the TV show. I think the movie assumed you were at least a little familiar with the full story already.

The length of the TV show was just about right. It was long enough to get to know the characters well and provide a detailed background on the world of Gaia. On the other hand, it was not so drawn out that there were big areas of filler episodes were the story stagnates and goes nowhere.

I went with the TV show. I preferred the developed characters over the dark story line.

I voted for both :)

I loved the TV series! the character development and the storyline of Esca TV. I even liked the ending :)

But I simply adore the style of animation of the movie.
The opening just kicks ass! :D
I'm a big fan of high contrast art; shadows on white and such.
Plus I adore Van's design.

I did not care much for Folken's design though, to me, he looked more like an old 80-ies rocker. :D

And I can understand if Allen fans are a little disappointed with the movie. He was a main character in the TV series, but he hardly gets any glory in the movie.

While I liked the animation in the movie better, I liked the story and characters a lot more in the series. The whole love triangle's what kept me foaming at the mouth in the first place. So I'd think I'd go with the series overall :D

I went with the tv series. I saw it first and loved the characters and story. The movie was different and darker, but still enjoyable. Maybe if I'd seen it first my opinion would be different but as it is the tv series will always be my favorite.

TV series. This was the first anime for me that displayed a continuous, strong storyline that had no fillers. Being raised on American junk that focused on single episodes, I never knew you could do TV animation series that way. I was enthralled

They each had their own uniqueness. I can't ever choose between the two.....EVER!!!

I did like Hitomi much better in the movie and the guys were yummy in both TV and Movie.

i went with both cuz they both have their own qualities
i adored the artwork and style of the movie, but it seemed rushed
and the tv series told a great story, but at points the art seemed to suffer
