Paranoia Agent

Post by hanaeleh »

Anyone catching this on CN? I'm trying to catch the overall "just" of the show... I'm afraid it will be one of those where it only makes true sense after it's all done.

I'm actually kind of enjoying the abstract way it's presented... still, I'm afraid I'm missing something the first time without having the linear plotline to follow.

Difficult show to follow if you don't catch it from the beginning. Also difficult to follow without being able to read kanji and/or no translations (nice job Adult Swim :x). Great series though, touching on an eclectic array of issues and trends from the absurd to the very poignant. Unfortunaltely, it's probably not the best pick to be shown on the A.S. "action" line-up. :|

Not watching it on CN, but I have seen the entire series and it's pretty good.
It reminds me of Lain in a lot of ways with the mysterious plotline that tends
to blur between reality and another worldview. Though, as transmet says,
it's best to follow it from the start as it is indeed something where all the
pieces fall in place at the end and you realize "hey, so that's what that
meant!" or "Doh! How'd I miss that?".

Yes- I am so annoyed that there are no translations!!! Usually there is *something* translated so you get the just, but I'm staring at the screen thinking, "Well, very pretty. No idea what it means...."

I'm not certain if I started watching it from the beginning or not, though... I had my DVR player record several before I started to watch them, and they seem to progress... I think I might have missed the very first one, though... the first one I saw was when the "perfect" boy was accused of being Little Slugger.

Oh, well... guess I'll have to keep watching and wondering.... X|

This show is a total mind job -- but it's also very entertaining. Definitely not what I expected when I was watching it. I watched the whole series all the way through in one sitting, so I didn't have too much trouble piecing everything together.

Satoshi Kon is one of my favorite anime directors and in his stories reality and illusion often cross. I just got the last disc of Paranoia Agent in the mail today and I am really looking forward to seeing the conclusion. This is his first TV series. I hope he does another!

The Doctor : … and then, just to finish off, I’m going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky !
Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?
