ROCK THE VOTE : Name That Cat !

First of all, thanks to everyone for suggesting names in the name-that-cat thread.

Secondly, you were no help at all.

Now I am stuck with hundreds of names, some great, some less great, some even downright lesser great.

But I‘ve managed to trim it down to three. And because you were all there from the start with this, once again Beta gets to cast its vote.

The candidates are :

( 1 ) Yura.
“Yura” (Of The Hair) from Inuyasha is the first option as a bases for a name.
The kitty is long haired too and the name has that Japanese background to it.

( 2 ) Fred.
Not to be mistaken with the character from the Angel tv-series.
“Fred” is basicly an inside joke between Uende and myself.
It was first used years ago to describe a hard to spot lemur/maki in the zoo and has been used since then for everyone and everything that couldn’t be named immediatly.
It’s our take on John/Jane Doe.

( 3 ) Dunan.
Dunan is the heroine of Masamune Shirow’s cybertech masterpiece “Appleseed” which has always kept a special place in my heart ever since I got into manga/anime.
Dunan is a sexy and tough as nails member of E-SWAT, the anti-terror police squad.
The kitten won’t be a member but she has nails !

The poll runs for 3 days. Whatever the result at that point goes.

All my pets that don't have a name usually get the generic name Oscar. I like generic names. Even though they are generic to us they are still personal.

I voted for Yura. Fred and Dunan just don't sound right for a girl kitty.

I was already going to vote for Yura since it reminded me of Futakoi, but that
gem clinched the vote for me.

Though, I still think "Uende" would give too many chances for jokes to pass up

Dunan Cat sounds a lot like Dunan Knut from the manga so I go with this >^.^<

OH THE PRESSURE!! I can't handle the pressure of naming my OWN pets... and now you want me to cast a vote that will set in stone what you name YOUR cat???

I'm afraid that Baakay has put her finger on it with the morbid perfection of naming a fluffball like your little pretty "Yura of the Hair."! The vacuum and lint brush will definitely be your friend.

However, I had a kitty many years ago that looked very much like your beauty... she was fluffy and silky and dainty, and we named her Earl! ... a name fit more for a truck driver than a dainty kitty, but one of us called her that once when we first got her and it just stuck. So Fred might just do the trick!

So I guess I'm NO help at all cuz I'm not ready to vote yet! I'll have to get back to you on this one.

Have you asked the cat which name she prefers?

OK- I know that sounds strange, but that's what I did with my kitty- I was on the phone with a friend and we went through a TON of names with my kitty on my lap- she looked up at a few of the fifty-bazillion names we went through, and I wrote those down. Then we went through those- one of the names was Vesta- the Roman goddess of the home and hearth (Vestal virgins...). Well, being Greek, the idea of a Roman name didn't appeal, so I tried Hestia, the Greek name. I said Vesta, she looked up and meowed. Said the other names, she looked up, but seemed only mildly interested.

Tried it again- kept looking up whenever I said Vesta. So I figured her name was Vesta. Not my favorite, by any means, but that was the name she wanted me to call her.

Of course, she also responds now to "Kitty," "Dorkhead," "Dweeboid," and "CAT! WHAT DID YOU BREAK NOW?!!"

Especially because of the "hair" connection

"Fred" is my next favorite solely because I think "Dunan" would be awkward to call repeatedly.
