I can imagine you got caught doing a lot of things your parents didn't
approve of when you were younger, aernath :D Thanks for the compliment,
though. Baakay didn't like the other one I made at the same time with the
underwear sniffing, so I went for this one instead.

Oh, and back on topic, there needs to be a "Yes, I know the difference, but
I keep forgetting which is which" answer.

It took me awhile to finally get down the difference between genga, douga, layout, roughs, etc. I got them down after I bought a few of them and had them in hand. Until then I kept forgetting the differences. :(
Hey! Thanks for the link! I just realized by reading it that I have a "tome" cel! 8O Cool! *runs off to update gallery*

Kymaera: I think the underwear sniffer is funny!!! Baakay obviously just doesn't recognize Art in it's "imitating life" form! (not MY life, mind you):rollin :joke I love you Kay! Don't beat me!!! :run

Genga versus douga

Post by animejewell »

This is from a friend of mine (in Japan)

The flow of creating an animation series once the storyboards are completed is as follows:

1. Settei (story with very rough sketches)

2. Layout genga

3. Genga (on white paper) drawn by key animators

4. Shuusei genga (on yellow or on blue paper) this is the revision to the genga. (this is done by the character designers or animation director)

5. Douga - the images on the douga completely match the scenes on the anime (wether it's for the cel or the cg animation) The sequence numbers are always on the right top hand corner for douga while genga always have the sequence numbers in other areas of the sketch.

Hope this helps with the few who don't know the difference,
Linda
