To Relist ... or Not ... That is the Question ...

Post by tex-chan »

OK ... I have an "in general" ebay question.

I recently ran a series of auctions to clear out a bunch of "extra" Saiyuki stuff from my collection. And, I'm very happy with how they went. (A big thank you to everyone who put in a bid, by the way! :) )

But, I had a few things that did not sell this time around. A couple were already relisted once.

So, my question is this: what do you guys think about relisting? Should I go ahead and relist, in the hopes of getting a little break on the listing fees? Or, should I just eat the fees for the ones that didn't sell, hold them for a while, and then list them again at a later date?

I do not have to be in a huge hurry to sell any of these. This isn't a situation where I need money yesterday or anything like that. It's just a bit of very late, very overdue "spring cleaning" for a collection that has grown way more than I ever expected it to.

My concern is that, if I relist them too many times, some kind of stigma might attach to them ... whereby folks have a perception that there is something "wrong" with the sketches because they have been listed so many times w/o any bids. Whereas, there is nothing wrong with them ... they are perfectly lovely pieces of artwork that just have not found the "right" buyer yet.

So, any opinions? Should I relist them ... or hold them back and put them up for auction later on?

relist based on the amount of people you noticed 'watching' the auctions. This is something you can see in the selling section of My Ebay. If you had say...3 people watching the acutions, then perhaps they forgot to bid, or something came up and they had to put the funds elsewhere. Relist one last time with a lower price and be sure to put in your auction that this is the last time you intend to relist to encourage people to not miss them this time around. Another thing to try would be to take all the sketches that have not sold and put them in a lot together, so that even if someone is interested in one, they will take the rest off your hands as well. I do this with series where the cels tend to sell for less than $10 a pop, so that you only have to deal with packing up one group of cels instead of 10 individual ones and have a few leftovers that havent sold. Also you can surprise your other customers by slipping in these unsold cels/sketches as a bonus, perhaps to reward some last minute bidding, or fast payment.
Its more than a gallery.

I was going to say hold them and relist later, but that ^ sounds like better advice. :)

Thanks, guys, for the opinions and helpful advice. I appreciate it.

After some thought, I decided to relist a few of the auctions that didn't sell last time around.

As for the others ... I will either hold them and list them later --- like in a few months when I do my next round of cleaning out ... or I'll send them as Omake with purchases, which is something I enjoy doing.

Or ... they might just find their way back into my collection. Could be that these little Saiyuki gengas just don't wanna leave their mommy just yet.
