You are a criminal !

Post by In_Gabriel_We_Trust »

Okay, first off, I'm so hoping you clicked on this topic because you were curious and not because you thougt : "Oh frag! He found out about me!"

Every once in a while I find myself asking silly or strange questions... and because you're all here, you get to 1) read about it and 2) maybe help me out.

Suppose you are on the wrong side of the law.
You could be a thief, a bankrobber, a drugsdealer, a crooked cop, a murderer, a member of the maffia (that doesn't exist by the way)...

The question is : what kind of movies are you going to watch ?
The bad guys always bite the dust. And if you are criminal, you'll identify with the bad guys, no ?
Every character in the movies that is "you" will be on the losing side at the end of the movie.
Maybe criminals only watch movies that doesn't involve crime in any way.
Although I find it hard to believe members of the Medellin-cartel only get to chose between "Steel Magnolias" & "My best friend's wedding."

The Doctor : … and then, just to finish off, I’m going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky !
Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

I think for some maybe it's a romantic fantasy - just because they don't win in the end doesn't mean they won't go out with guns blazing and take as many others with them as possible. Or maybe they watch and analyze what the movie bad guy did wrong, and figure out how they would have done it differently. 8)

Hector the Collector loved these things with all his soul,
Loved them more than shining diamonds, loved them more than glistenin' gold.
Hector called to all the people,"Come and share my treasure trunk!"
And all the silly sightless people came and looked...and called it junk.

Hmm...

Movies where the criminal and/or bad guy wins:

Swimming with Sharks
The Player
The Ref (best X-mas movie, ever!)
The Minus Man
True Romance

....

Fight Club

Point is there's movies (and a whole lot more books) out there where the line between good and bad isn't clearly defined. I also don't think most criminals see of themselves as "bad". They perceive the world to be less "black & white", but rather more shades of grey.

Oh, frag! You found out about me!!!

:D

Yep ... I think there are a lot of movies where the bad guys win ... or, maybe, the bad guys aren't as deep-down "bad" as you might think they are. I mean ... the world is gray, and movies often reflect that, with the bad guys having loving families, or some sort of moral code.

I'm not sure if this makes any sense, though, so I'll fall back on my first response:

Oh, frag! You found out about me!!!

I think any movie with a bad guy in it would be on my list. Considering I would only concentrate on the bad guy and not that he bites it in the end.

Guess movies that have a sort of neutral endings are some of the Lethal Weapon series since that one guy always looses his lover. Can't remember right now since I have fuel fumes in my brain...

Actually, as a graduate with a degree in Criminal Justice,
I think I can kind of enlighten you there. Alot depends
on what sort of criminal they are, though it seems to be
a general concensus that most criminals like porn, or at
least movies with lots of sexual contents. They also like
to watch shows dealing with true life criminals, and
most sexual offenders or killers like to watch real life
crime shows such as Forensic files, which they show on
Discovery or Court TV.

They also read True Crime magazines, most generally,
because they get many of their idea's through them. Also,
True Crime magazines are notorious for selling things such
as fake police badges and the such. Why in the world they
would do something like that is beyond me, however, it is true. X|

Wow, that was more detail then you probably needed. 8O
Was that the answer you were looking for, or did you just
want something such as "Helter Skelter"?? :shrug

Not just like that. It's a teriffic film and I invite anybody who hasn't seen it to definetly give it a watch. Get the original B&W film though, the remake was garbage.

Let me think of some movies with either sympathetic, or identifiable lead criminals, nut jobs, and men above the law
Le Samurai
Taxi Driver
The Godfather
Un Flic
The Day of the Jackal
La Femme Nikita
Unforgiven
Ronin
The Score
The Wild bunch
Reservoir Dogs
Dirty Harry
Silence of the Lambs
Dog day afternoon
White Heat
Straw Dogs
Double Indemnity

I wonder if Batman, or the Punisher count as criminals?
