That's hard for me to say. I switched from Lunar to Bleach Society around episode 40 mainly because I got tired of their slangy, apostrophe, hip hop style wording. It was distracting me from the show. I'm not very particular about English translations except when the get too slangy or Westernized (like a lot of Viz manga used to). It takes me away from the setting of the story.vampyreshoujo wrote:For all those that watch Bleach Society's releases - are their subs any good? How do they compare to Lunar's?
But Lunar sharpens their video image so I like their video quality a lot more than Bleach Society's (or I did at the time. I'm not sure how they compare now). The shapening makes the video a bit jumpy (which was especially noticeable back when Bleach was having their Captain/Vice-Captain closing scenes), but I thought it was an acceptable trade off.
Hmm...I thought I downloaded Bleach Society's version and Bakakozou's version, but I actually got BS's and Dattebayo's version.

Episode 51 SPOILER:
DB's version: ?Tousen: Either way, it seems like you lost not only your pride, but your sanity as well, Zaraki. Ken-chan: Sanity huh? I don't even remember having a thing like that to start with. Bleach Society's version: ?Tousen: Whichever it may be, it seems like, not only did you lose your pride, but also your sanity, Zaraki. Ken-chan: Sanity...I don't recall ever having an annoying thing like that. Kenpachi has some very funny lines in this. Me ROFL ![]() |

Thanks for the information/opinions, everyone. Especially all the info you provided, Keropi!
Interestingly, out of the spoiler dialogue you posted I like how DB translated Tousen's line best but then I like how Bleach-Society translated Ken-chan's line best. Go figure, eh?
I'll just have to suck it up and download one of Bleach-Society's episodes I guess.
Next week is going to be awesome!

Yup. I imagine Bleach'll be treated the same way Naruto is when they air a one hour "special". It'll actually just be two episodes back to back (52 & 53) except there won't be an END/OP between episodes. Then, yes, we'll have to go Bleachless for a week.Keropi wrote:So I guess next week we will have a double Bleach episode, but then we don't get one the following week after that?
I wonder if it will be an hour long episode next week or if we'll have two regular episodes in a row?

I was watching episode 51 again and I have to agree with Remi. Dattebayo's translation left out quite a bit of stuff from what they were saying. A lot of meaning was lost (but non-crucial info). When watching Bleach Society's version things make more sense. I noticed other lines were funnier in Bleach Society's version:
EPISODE 51 DIALOG SPOILERS:
EPISODE 51 DIALOG SPOILERS:
In DB's version: Kenpachi: So you guys want to play too, huh? Looks like I have no choice. I'll take care of the captains, so you take care of the left-overs. If you get in my way, I'll cut them through you! [after the two leave] Kenpachi: Well, well. It's finally calmed down a bit. In Bleach Society's version: Kenpachi: So you guys want to cut too eh. That's fine. I'll share. But fight somewhere else. If you get in my way, I'll cut you first. [after the two leave] Kenpachi: Finally, I can cut in peace. ROFL ![]() Here's an example of lost meaning in DB's translation: DB's version: Ikaku: Just because I'm not a Vice-Captain, doesn't mean a scaredy-cat Vice-Captain like you should tell me what to do. Bleach Society's version: Ikaku: There's no reason for a guy who went to another division because he couldn't be a vice captain in ours to say anything bad about how I talk Iba-san. |

im fed up with lunar (never did like their slang talk with Gin),
who is the next best in your opinion?
the last 2 eps i DL'ed were by DB, but that was just cuz they came out first.
is the BS release consistant? i dont mind waiting a couple days if they have
better translations

Well like I said earlier. I'm not very picky with English translations. As long as the translation is not too Westernized, slangy or cumbersome to read I'm usually fine with it. I frequently download more than one groups fansubs because it usually doesn't matter much to me. I was downloading Keep & ANBU's and Lunar's when Bleach started. Later on, just for consistency I decided to always watch Lunar's version. I could afford to wait for Lunar's because I normally watched the raw first. So I wasn't dying to death waiting for the subbed version to come out.
I don't know when it started, but Lunar's slang caused me to switched to Bleach Society's. Their translations seem good enough to me. I'm not thinking about the translation while I'm watching it so that's a good sign. I don't have much to say about anyone else's version. Hell's translations are obviously extremely rough and rushed just to get his fansub out early.
I haven't downloaded any of Bakakozou's fansubs, but judging from this thread in the Suki Bleach Forum it appears they had some problems with accidentally leaving notes in episode 50:

Or is that Bleach Society's they are talking about? They mention both names in that thread? I know Bleach Society came out with an episode 50v2 later on. I didn't feel any need to rewatch episode 50.
I don't recall thinking anything of Keep & ANBU's translation while I was watching theirs so that means I was okay with it.

I'm rather picky about my fansubs. I hate poor video quality, overuse of slang, and overtranslations. I didn't use to be this way... not sure what happened.
But anyway. I used to get Bleach from Anime-Keep, but they were just too slow to satiate my Bleach needs. I have been disappointed with Lunar from the get-go due to overtranslation of terms. Calling the shinigami "Death Gods" irks me. Yes yes, I know that's what they are, but I prefer "shinigami" over the translation. I have been using Bleach-Society as of late, and I really like them. I dl'ed Bakakozou last week because I didn't want to wait for BS' fansub, and I was very impressed with BK's work.
So there's my two cents. And it's probably worth less than that.
