I like both and refuse to choose one. Story and character are ultimately the number ones for me, and whether I end up looking for a cel or sketch to collect is secondary as I've grown to like sketches very much. Perhaps with computers, it makes it easier for animators to become "lazy" or to rush things, but the same situations probably occured with some hand-painted cel-based shows as well.

I don't find it surprising that CG shows are 'imitating' hand painted cel shows. Really, they are still using cels, but instead of coping the douga onto acetate, they are scanning and coloring on the computer. To really go 'further' I am envisioning 3-D type animation or coloring (?) which takes a lot more time to do well, and I usually prefer 2-D animation anyhow, unless the studio has a huge budget and tons of experience (Pixar).
