Have you ever....
set your alarm to wake up in the middle of night or early morning just to bid on a cel?
I have done that couple of times. My latest one was today when i bid on the dbz cels on mandy's auction.

Before university----- yes. In university--------- I became an ungodly night owl so the use of an alarm was negligible, no matter what time it was. Course I'd always set a countdown timer on my watch juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust in case, sort of as a reminder.
How often did it work? More often then not, so i guess its useful, heh. example, Won my last two cels that way and they're beauts!

I set my alarm to wake up early fairly often (maybe for around one quarter of the auctions I bid on).
I'm more likely to wake up early for an auction if:
1. The item is likely to end at a higher amount.
2. The item is the first cel or sketch I've ever seen from the show so I don't have much of an idea of how high the auction will go for.
3. The item is from a more mainstream series.
4. There are other items I want to bid on ending around the same time (esp. from the same seller).
5. The auctions ends around 5:30AM or later local time. Auctions ending at 4:15 AM local time or earlier I feel less like waking up for.
The ending of Daylight Savings Time made things worse.

Like Uende i live on Europe and fortunately and the Japan auctions ending times match very well with me.
I can proudly say that i have never had to wake up early to bid on an auction.
Years ago when i bidded on ebay there were a couple of times when the auctios ended on the middle of the night but i just placed my bid before going to bed. Now i don't remember if i won or lost.

My answer is a no because the Japanese time-zone fits in well with mine and most cels that I bid on on YJapan end around 1-3pm my time. ^_^
Ebay is a different case altogether with the US timezones which make the auctions end around 2-4am for me usually. But instead of setting my alarm, I usually just stay up late if I don't have to be up for work. ^_^; If I'm working, I just place the highest bid I can afford if I want the cel that badly lol.

Definitely! I recall even setting the alarm to go off even earlier on Christmas morning than I usually get up so I could put in a winning bid on a CCS cel I wanted for myself for Christmas. I had to kick Santa off the computer to do so (he was linking to his list on his private website one last time), so I got a stocking full of reindeer poop.
But I won the cel!!!!

No... hee. I don't use an alarm clock (although I did set the alarm on my palm last time spouz was away... just in case.) I have a husband and 3 cats who think anything after 5 am means the day's half done.
If it's not going to be gettable in those 8 hours I call an attempt at sleep, I fling my best bet at it beforehand and call it good. I may stretch the day just a wee bit at the end if it's finishing before midnight, but that's unusual.
A few times I've waked myself up earlier than the normal crack of stupid... "OMG! if I get up NOW I can be sure to get that cel!" and it worked once. But ordinarily I'm too jealous of any rest I might actually get to waste it on auctions

Like Nene/Uende/DS said, living in Europe is benficial if you want to catch the end of Japanese auctions on YJ. They often finish early afternoon which is good- just as I get back from work.
For Ebay it's another story.
I used to wake up at silly times to catch the end of some 'important' auctions.
The US auctions would often close between midnight to 4am which is why I invested in 'Auction Sentry'. With that program I just put in my high bid and let it do the sniping for me.
