Then the Dean repeated the mantra that has had such a marked effect on the progress of knowledge through the ages.
'Why don't we just mix up absolutely everything and see what happens?' he said.
And Ridcully responded with the traditional response. "It's got to be worth a try,' he said

Flying out to Florida on Friday to meet my parents. We traditionally spend Christmas in Florida to avoid the extended family. On Christmas Eve will go shopping for gifts to open on Christmas day. Its only procrastination if it is unplanned
We traditionally do this so we don't have to check luggage. We ship whatever we buy back.

"Same thing we do every Christmas, Pinky..."

Three days from now we will go into full-out vacation mode. (YAY!) We will vegitate with a great deal of joy and abandon, eat lots of good food, make horrible messes about the house, and...um... probably:
1) play board games;
2) do lots of art;
3) watch movies and anime;
4) Talk to lots of folks on the phone;
5) and shop! yes, shop... we inevitably get Borders cards and Target cards and what have you for gifts from family and we have great fun hitting every store in a 50 mile radius to continue the holiday buying spree long after the day is through.
Yep, that sounds horribly self-indulgent, and it is; but what I'm happy about is that my kiddos want to buy books. They're into anything they can read, be it manga or encyclopedias. This is GOOD!
My only regret for this year is that most of the family is getting together at Dad's house outside Cleveland... and we just can't swing it. Oh well. This is what computer geeks with cameras on their laptops are for... we've done the "virtual Christmas morning" thing before and it's great.

With Christmas falling on a Sunday this year it means I'll be going out to the pub on Friday night with some friends after they finish work, then again on Saturday (Christmas Eve).
Christmas day will be at home with the family, just me and my parents as my bro is going away with his girlfriend.
We'll watch a film or two, play some board games and mess around with any new gadgets we get as presents ^__^ It's all good wholesome entertainment!

Anytime soon?

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

In three days (and counting down), 4D and I will be on vacation - woo!
My parents fly in from California - and usually it's a nice gathering of my family (parents, brother & his significant other) at 4D's and my place with lots of good food, gifts, TV (usually 24 hours of A Christmas Story gets played until we're sick of it), and lots of useless but fun chatter
. The day after Christmas: repeat same ritual with 4D's family.. at least this year that's how it'll work. haha!

We have the same tradition every year. We go to my
mother's house on Christmas eve - eat tons of food,
open presents, spend sometime with family, and then
go to Midnight mass. On Christmas day, we go to church
first thing, then come home and let my boys open their
presents. With the new babies, though, whose to say
how things will change over the next few years.

Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

This year, Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. (I'm in the choir). Then it's home to open presents and EAT traditional Italian Christmas Eve goodies. When I was a kid, it was 13 meatless dishes, but now I'm hearing 7. Anyway, cheese, crackers, dips and veggies, and a concoction that no one likes but MUST have - angel hair pasta with bread crumbs and anchovies! (yeah - sounds awful, but we only eat it once a year!)
Christmas Day, I'm making a brunch casserole and then later untraditional food - pork chops with sage smashed potatoes, veggie casserole and pie, among other snacks. Simple cooking, lots of time to visit with family and friends, play with our new "toys." That's Christmas.

I'm working on Christmas Eve--5:30-2:30.
In retail. Yuck.
But, the rest of the day will probably be spent quietly at home. We used to go to a huge party with my mother's extended family, but ever since my great-grandma died, the extended family hasn't wanted anything to do with each other.
Not that spending the entire evening in a room full of strangers is my idea of a good time, anyway.
So, this year I'll be at my parents', opening the traditional "one present" for New Year's.
Then, Christmas, I'll be going to my aunt's house, eating some sort of crappy potluck, and trying not to step on one of the numberless cousins I have. Honestly, I couldn't even tell you how many there are, let alone name them.
