I just thought I'd post this for all you Windows users - there is currently a nasty exploit in the wild (circulating on the 'net) that can compromise your PC. All you'd have to do is visit a website with a specially crafted image on it and you're done for. Microsoft has yet to release a patch, but they will release one on January 10th via Windows Update. So, til then - please be careful what websites you visit! And do your Windows Updates next week!

Well, not 59 viruses.. 59 files All using the same exploit. Yes it bothers me - but I also run online virus scans from other AV companies on a regular basis Yep.. just call me paranoid.
Thanks for the warning Zero, I just double-checked that my Symantec software is up to date. There was actually 1 available update so it may have been a protection against the viruses that can exploit this flaw in Windows.
So from what I gather, this new threat is a virus/trojan that is inadvertantly downloaded onto a user's PC by visiting one of the 'malicious websites'. It is saved onto the user's system when viewing/downloading a corrupt image file and/or movie file.
I'll be more vigilant and refrain from browsing the hackz/crackz/warez and appz sites

Ahh - a linux user among us? wow. For awhile I had my one computer running Fedora... but it just didn't like my wireless network much, so I reformatted it and it currently also runs the dreaded MS OS.

I have Fedora And yes, I had trouble with wireless network as well So I went to IT person in the department and he fixed it in 5 minutes (I guess you have to download some software....) and now it works fine
I hve dual system with window for my backup and for my hubby

Hmm... well not to totally dive off-topic, but I had to download some stuff just to get my wireless NIC to work with Fedora (to make the windows driver work in linux), but it also kept locking up the machine... I have a feeling I might have burned a corrupt installer disc - that could have been the culprit. Eventually I'll try it again. LOL. eventually.
Oh, for those who think they got a "pre-patch release" of the patch... I'd advise loading it for now. Seems it is built off of a reverse engineered file leaked from MS. So it isn't 100% safe.
Just in case you have a computer savvy friend who comes over saying, "Oh I can fix that problem for you..." Then you offer them a bridge for sale.
