I'm for immediate execution

Post by JWR »

Any AH who has written an internet virus or worm should be publicly executed post haste via the most painful way possible.

After the last few weeks dealing with several virus & worms that passed through my Norton AV like it was non-exsistant and caused my system to randomly reboot in the middle of critical work :kaioken

I ran several norton scans and found nothing. switched to trend micro as well as scanzilla and found 6 viruses and 4 worms as well as some adware that got through norton.

Now I have been a loyal Norton customer (even just upgraded to norton 2006) for the last 4 years but no more.

I do think that the virus/worm creators are exployting weaknesses in norton AV. So I will recommend if anyone starts having things weird start happening with their systems , don't be afraid to search out other free scan such as Trend Micro (be advised it can take up to 2hrs to download & scan) Scanzilla as well as adaware to see if you too have had crap get pass Norton and screw with your system (I am not a paid spokesperson for any of these listed programs, just that they helped solve my own virus/spyware/adware problems) Trust me there is nothing more sickening than to put your Comp in sleep mode and have it suddenly start up under someone else's control.

I can fully feel your pain. After two reformats of this current desktop I have sworn that my gaming rig will never visit any site other than official sites (aka no fan sites, etc.) and it has been clean so far.

I don't use Norton, but the other one (McAfee) and I have found that even though you have them running, you need to configure it properly to catch all the incoming files (and scan before loading). Most of mine have come from e-mails though... from people whom I know as well.

Anyways, another thing you want to do is unhook it from the net, boot in safe mode and scan it because you probably have a few who are lurking deep inside your OS now.

Do you know what viruses you had? Sorta curious and might be able to help get rid of them.

There is a reason why I do not rely solely upon any single AV or anti-spyware/adware application. Every single one of them misses at least ONE thing. By using one dedicated AV program and using free scans on a regular basis, as well as multiple anti-spyware apps, I've managed to remain completely virus and spyware free for at least the past 2 years *knock on wood*

Of course, I always update my software and am very careful about where I surf and the browsers I use.

It definitely sucks. I repair computers and clean viruses and spyware off of infected computers as kinda of a side job. Just when I think I've seen it all... heh. So, I feel your frustration, believe me.

Sorry to hear about your computer problems, Joe. But it's good to know that Zero and Yoshito are on hand to give advice & suggestions if you're ever in trouble, they both rock! ^__^

I must lead a charmed life.
Or maybe I just don't have the right taste in webpages.
I have no virus protection, and haven't had a major problem in 4 years.
But I feel for ya'all.
