I haven't got my holy grail cel yet ^^

At the moment though, this one comes top of my list - I fell in love with it the moment I saw it:

What a great thread! It's really cool to see everyone's favorites and read why they like them so much. 2 cels have reached "Holy Grail" status in my collection:

http://ralphvboy.rubberslug.com/gallery ... mID=117545 I never imagined that I would see a cel from this sequence, let alone own one. It's simply the most dramatic and moving Rurouni Kenshin cel I have

http://ralphvboy.rubberslug.com/gallery ... mID=126788 The EXACT cel that I wanted from this touching scene in Trigun. Whenever I look at it, I just wonder how the animators were able to pack so much emotion onto a single sheet of acetate :l

Yeah, you should be willing to hurt, or it isn't really in that category. However, some are lucky enough to have different enough tastes that they can get steals on their ultimate cels. It's kind of nice to have a cel that really touches you and it doesn't matter that other don't get it. :)

Unfortunately though, not all of us are so blessed with respect to our Holy Grail items. :|

Many of us have the "never thought it would ever come to me" experience, and that should tell the newcomers not to despair but to wait in expectant patience until "that" cel crosses their path.

Very interesting thread!
Couldn't have said it better myself, Sensei! This has been an amazing, amazing thread, both for the gorgeous pieces on display and for the incredible stories of triumph (or, sometimes, loss, loss, more loss, and then, finally(!) triumph! {how sweet it is!} :D ).

Soul?? Luckily I'm not burdened by one of those. I sold mine off a loooong time ago. :D

In all seriousness, even though I've been lucky enough to acquire pieces in my collection that I can't believe I own, and that I could never dream of parting with ... my recent "holy grail" acquisition was the first time I've ever experienced that desperate feeling of urgent, mind-splitting NEED! I would have done anything and given up anything in order to get that cel. It was very, very scary, let me tell you. So, for my own sanity, I'm praying that it remains my one and only, true, holy grail ... 'cuz I don't think I could live through that experience a second time! X|

I know I'm a little late on this, but thought I would finally add mine.

I want to list 2. Both I acquired on YJ. The first is an image I didn't think I would ever see, but there it was. It's one of my favorite images of Inuyasha, besides he is actually wearing something different...even if it is a imaginary image of him. What makes this cel even more special is that several beta members either knew I really wanted it and backed off from bidding or saw I was bidding and didn't bid against me so I was able to get this cel. That meant as much to me as the cel itself.

http://obsessed.rubberslug.com/gallery/ ... emID=99116

The second one is just the opposite...I ended up in the highest bidding war I have ever been in to get this one...yep, against beta members. I was very determined to have this. It was worth the price, but I would not want to do it again. I absolutely love the expressions.

He he! What an interesting thread!! :D I'm amazed at the diversity of cels and shows that are being posted! (I'm also amazed at the number of ones I was bidding against people for! Good taste! :rollin )

I have two that fall into the category:

#1 was bought from Kata and I will love her until the day I die for letting me buy such an INCREDIBLE cel from such an amazing scene:

http://oraclestemple.rubberslug.com/gal ... mID=120445
It makes my hands shake whenever I look at it.

And #2 was a cel I drooled over for almost a year on Hobbyshop Raxa's site before a betarian put one from the EXACT SAME SCENE (but substantially cheaper and with MORE chest showing! :D) up for sale and I snapped him up!
http://oraclestemple.rubberslug.com/gal ... emID=52357
I don't care if you're tired of seeing him, he's amazing and he's all mine! :rollin

I couldn't agree more! I love that everyone's getting into the spirit and telling their stories. 8) Although, I will have to admit that I don't understand everyone's "obvious reasons" but that's probably just because I haven't seen all the anime out there or don't know the betarian well enough. But in other cases *cough*Baylor*cough*, I understand all too well. :P

Beautiful artwork everyone! I want to see and hear more. :)

Ask and ye shall receive, DT :D
Ever since I started collecting, I always wanted a hanken cel. I thought they were the neatest things on the planet... and pricey, too. When Animaxis started their multiple bouts of hanken sales, I couldn't help but pick this one up: http://zero4.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv ... emID=94454
The one cel I truly can't believe I own, though, would be this one: http://zero4.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv ... emID=82903 The damn thing stands about three feet tall all framed up. 8O And I got it for a song off of Yahoo!Japan. Hard to believe I own her every time I walk by.

Tenshi ni Narumon (I'm Gonna be an Angel) has been our focus series for some time. Naturally, the cels we wanted the most tended to be from this series. Here are a few we never thought we would own ...until we did!

Cels of Fuyuke are especially hard to find since he is only seen in two flashback scenes. A close-up of Fuyuyke and a cel of him with wings were major finds. The close-up came from AnimeGame, and I can't believe I didn't order it immediately when I first saw it! Instead, I kept coming back to the site fearful that it might be gone! Finally I had to say "You idiot! BUY it already!!" So I did!

This cel is painted in a very unusual way, with dark glassy eyes. I have never seen anything quite like it.

Here is the other Fuyuke:

http://cat.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_i ... emID=49596

The extra plus to this is that it is the end cel, and it is shown repeatedly through the series.

Another Holy Grail, that I never thought I would ever see, is this cel of Raphael from the most important scene concerning him in Step 26.

http://cat.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_i ... emID=99079

I didn't want just any cel from this scene but one where he is looking directly at Natsumi and smiling. Not only did I find that scene, with the smile,, I found the End cel! AND it was amazingly inexpensive too! (Thank you Curt!)

The only other thing I really had the hardest time finding or beating other people to buying, was opening cels from the series. I had a few minor, though nice ones for a while, but could never get the best ones. I desperately wanted one from the Miruru sequence with her eyes open (we have one of her eyes closed) and a cel from the Noelle daydream of kissing Yuusuke . I had only seen one of of the daydream and it sold for a lot. Imagine my surprise, when I was able to buy not only only one of each of these but 2 from each sequence!

Miruru! One is a key; the other is also beautiful and my favorite!

The daydream kiss! Check out the beautiful coloration!

http://cat.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_i ... emID=94351
http://cat.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_i ... mID=107206

The best thing of all was that I could actually afford them! :)

I just had to pop back in here to say: Vapalla ... I LOVE your TnN cels! I've never even seen this show, but I could (and have, in the past ... :D ), literally, spend hours looking at your beautiful collection of cels from it. Truly one of the many, many eye-candy treats available in your gallery!

I hope posting a picture is ok. If not, just nudge me and I'll convert it to a
text link. :) I saw a cel from this pan sequence on a dealer's site but it sold
too quickly for me to even think about purchasing it. Plus, I didn't have the
money at the time. :l Not long after that, this beauty pops up and for MUCH
LESS! 8O I absolutely couldn't believe my eyes! I never even bothered
putting something like this on my wishlist because I honestly never imagined
having the opportunity to own such a gorgeous piece of artwork.
