The only possible explanation I can think of is that if the snake is used to eating frozen pray, it might not realize the hamster is a "meal."
I once tried to give a live mouse to one of my snakes after years of eating frozen/thawed meals. The snake was scared of the mouse and wouldn't go near it, let alone eat it.
I just hope they realize that rodents, even a small hamster, can injure and even kill a snake very easily if it gets hungry and decides to nibble...

Watched PTI this afternoon, and they had an over/under on when the snake would eat the hamster. Tony had it at under 30 days, Wilbon had it as over at 317 days. I love Tony's response: "At some point, that snake is going to get tired of frozen mice, look at that warm fat hamster, and game over."
Time is but an illusion. Lunch time...doubly so.
