I stalk 4D's Ryoko cels on a montly basis... mostly because I've never seen them before and that size of a cel has to be insane to ship. =P

For me, I haven't found my dream/holy-grail cel yet. Still looking, and I know as soon as I see it on anything... my bank account shall feel the burn.

Till then, this is the only cel that I consider my favorite of all time (soon to be joined by two other similar cels, but different shots [see current avatar]). Hmm, the story behind this cel is it links me back to my childhood. When I used to come home from school (Preschool and later) I always made sure I had time to watch this show on TV. Now it wasn't the story that intrigued me (heck, I hardly noticed the people) but the ship. Oh for something that big... with guns... a big gun... has jets on it... and did I mention the big gun? Between this and Robotech, my afternoons were glued to the TV. I even drew the ship on a plate (that we still have) in Preschool... sooo, jump to the current time. I buy the DVDs and cry at the weird dialogues, and cheesy music. But the magic is still there. Think I can hum the entire opening theme (US only of course) by memory...

So without a further adieu...

I bring you the ARGO! (yes I know it is Yamato, but that was learned when I was much older, so play with my internal child for a minute =P).

The show was called Starblazers in the states... and on occasion I pop in the DVD set and watch it (haven't gone past the first DVD though).

Thanks very much Redwolf and Tex

Yoshito, that is a great cel!! I love Starblazers :)

Hm, I was thinking about it... I do have some Giant Robo Holy Grails as well.
And they definitely belong in a different category for me because it's such a
meaningful series...

Giant Robo himself. A one cel scene in the last episode, right before he
kicks major ass. I love the wash on his face.

The real Big Fire. A low count sequence featuring the real Big Fire.
Last episode, the only time he ever appears.

And finally, harmony pan cel of the Shizuma Drive prototype.
The entire plot of the series is built around this device, to own it is an
absolute dream.

Oooh, I love the pan cel. Such detail... and colors. The capacitors, resistors, pots, and etc. makes me remember the days of making circuits in class.

That is one sweet cel you have there. ^_^

LOL, how did I miss Krafty's reply?! Thanks James, you funny flatterer you. :kiss

Hm, it seems I need to change my answers for this thread a bit. I have a new Holy Grail, for real this time! :P I'm basing this on rarity and availability. The fact that only one exists and because it's a complete set-up book is why I can now officially say that this is my Holy Grail: Ryozanpaku floating over St. Abey. If you haven't seen GR, it's kind of hard to explain how incredibly important this BG is. It's crucial to the plot and the location of the final showdown. The detailing and airbrushing are marvelous. Definitely going into the casket when I'm buried. 8)

Thanks for reviving this thread, WC! Your new Holy Grail looks fabulous 8)

I managed to snag a definitive Holy Grail cel for myself this past summer from Mandarake's BWA. It's a fabulous setup of Kurapica vs. Ubogin from the anime "Hunter X Hunter":

It's just one of those dream cels that I never thought I'd ever get to see, let alone own  Keep these Holy Grail stories comin' guys ^_^

Awesome "Holy Grails"! Every single one that I have seen so far is special and powerful in its own way.

I have two cels that I consider to be my "Holy Grail" cels. Of course one of them which was mentioned in another thread is my "Slayers" Lord of Nightmares Not only is she one of the rarest and most amazing characters to find in a cel BUT this cel is also an INFAMOUS and important scene, the first Key cel of the sequence and End cel for the effect, an original background, and all of the sketches (complete with the words LON written in the corner) I still think it's unbelievable that I managed to have a dream cel like that hanging on my wall. It still takes my breath away everytime I gaze at it.

Tied with that is another Lord of Nightmares cel that is one of my favorites. Even though I have seen others of this sequence, the one I have is in better state, comes with several effect and extra body layers, and comes with an original background that enhances its golden beauty.

My cat Temperance I call her Tempe for short.

My cat Seeley is a Sailor Moon fan, too!

I didn't anticipate on having a black female cat and a white male cat or I would have named them Luna and Artemis... oh well.

So many of you have long searches in your stories, but I never imagined that this cel would ever be available. I am sure that everyone that has ever seen Fushigi Yuugi remembers the first big moment when Tamahome does the impossible for love and pushes thru the barrier around the temple to rescue Miaka. This pan cel stays on screen forever while the background flashes back and forth between black and white.

One day there it was on eBay and I didn't even have a fight for it. It still amazes me years later, and although I have quite a few cels that wow me, I always come back to this one :D

I actually found 2 cels that I never even dreamed of finding from the Transformers G1 series (1980's). One cel I have been searching for the past 8 years since I have been cel collecting and never found one from the series . . . until now . . . :)
I will be posting them up on my gallery in a month or so once they finally come in. These are the reasons why I have been having a gallery sale recently. :)
