Anyone else going to watch the new Dr. Who on Sci-Fi channel tomorrow night (Friday) at 9/8C?

Also how is/was it Beta Brit members?

I grew up watching the old Dr. Who series on PBS.

I have all the old ones from Pertwee on recorded on VHS.

Dr. Who is still one of the best sci-fi series so I am looking forward to seeing this new show.

Wheeee! I'm really looking forward to it too!

Though I have to confess, due to the extreme sweetness of another Betarian, I have already seen the whole first season AND the special "Christmas Invasion" introduction episode to season 2!

I think any old Dr. Who fan will really like the current version! I was veeery skeptical, but it didn't take long for my skepticism to melt away. Let's get back together here on Saturday and discuss!

but somewhere buried in the boxes from a previous time and space I still have my Dr. Who Fan Club card and button (from the 80's when it was running on PBS)...

I've seen a few Dr. Who episodes when I was way too young and too scared of Daleks to enjoy the show.

I think Shellie will concur when I say they really nailed the new series for the new Millenium.
I was a little skeptic too and I stumbled onto the first episode of the series by pure accident, not really knowing what to think of it....

until...

...keep your eyes and ears peeled in the first episode for the moment The Doctor holds Rose's hand and explains who he is and what he feels.

Those three / four sentences summed up the entire character and I have loved.. yes LOVED the series ever since.

Well I haven't posted on here for a while but Dr Who is something I can really comment on (being a mad Dr Who fan when I was a Kid).

Christopher Ecclestone I thought made a really good Doctor rather Quirky and took the pee out of himself a lot in it. And most of the stories in it where good. I dont want to spoil it for anyone so I won't go into it here.

Such a pity he only signed for 1 series there is now someone else playing him I think his name is David Tennant. He has only done 1 Ep (a christmas special) but he was OK.

The creatures in the Christmas Special looked convincing, the make-up department did a good job.
I was never a huge fan of the series but could tolerate it, this series was more of the same. The theatrical Britishness of the whole production puts me off but I can see its appeal for others and international fans.

Perhaps I've mentioned this before on another thread, I've been inside a real Dalek and spoke with its synth voice, that was cool. Got to manoeuvre his plunger too, but I couldn't exterminate anybody. I think it was broken...

I got to SEE a real Dalek, but I never got to get INTO it! And Krafty, who doesn't even LIKE the show, gets to play with the ultimate exterminating machine! Where's the JUSTICE in this world????

Dr. Who is definitely an acquired taste, Krafty. I originally fell in love with the show (more than 25 years ago?!

) precisely because of the show's ultra-cheesy monsters and lame special effects! The campiness was its charm.

(And Tom Baker was just too bizaare NOT to love!) That's kinda what made me afraid to watch the new one... I was afraid that if it had state-of-the-art special effects and an up-to-date storyline that I'd hate it! But (without being spoilerish), I think the old fans will be very happy with the updating, because it does still retain the feel of the old show. The intro music and graphics almost made me cry because they were SO good and true to the original.

And the monsters in the first episode and in a few other episodes are completely cheesy! but somehow they are still creepy and well done. I don't think I'm explaining it well, but I hope you'll understand me when you watch it tonight!!

You hit it on the nail-head there!

I wasn't that impressed with the first episode (other that the above mentioned quote).
I know this is stupid on my part, but when I saw the mannequins in the basement fully dressed I was grumbling to myself. No way would any store have that many dressed dummies sitting in the basement!

As for episode 2, I thought it was back to the Dr. Who of old. Action, camp and SO funny with the "Ipod" playing Soft Cell! The aliens were great, and "the last human" I could so believe that! LOL

Looks like I have something to keep me busy on Friday nights. Now if Sci-Fi would just cut down on the advertising in the shows! All would be perfect. :bubbles
