Think of all the other stuff you could buy for that! AMG hankens...etc ^^;! You could buy 10 or more Naruto hanken gengas ^^;! And...Yeah...It's just the rough sketch. I'd be interested in seeing what else is in that collection of 48...Hopefully not a whole bunch of correction gengas of arms or mouths ^^;!

Based on the rest of the sketches shown . . . ouch! I mean, I've never bought sketch sets from Mandy, but don't they usually show the best stuff in the three auctions images? The second image looked pretty cheap to me . . . Then again, I don't know Naruto art, so there you go.

I'd think they would 'cause showing the best stuff would encourage more people to bid? Probably? Right? But I've won a few auctions where I've been pleasantly surprised by some of the stuff that wasn't shown and even thought it was better than what was shown. Oh well... it's always a crapshoot when you bid on Mandarake lots anyway. ^^;;
For the sake of whoever won though, I hope those aren't the best sketches in the set.
I don't know. I still think it might have been a hoax. I mean, I can't even imagine that set going for $800, not to mention $8000. And it doesn't take much to drive up a bid. You aren't required a CC to open an account. I say Mandy lost out on this one because no one in their right mind would pay that much for that. And yes, normally they show the best first. I did one time receive some sketches that were nicer than the ones shown, but not by much, especially not enough to make a $7500 difference.
I've got to say that Naruto has a HUGE fan base all across the globe. Wether it be the anime or the manga. The SasuNaru fanbase makes up half of all of the Naruto fans out there. If you're not familiar with SasuNaru...
It's the yaoi pairing of Sasuke and Nuruto. There's a lot of interesting stuff happening with that in the manga right now, and the first sketch shown in that set is from the first episode of Naruto, where Naruto kisses Sasuke. It would be worth the most out of the set, and it is that drawing that, if the bids were real, were the driving force of the auction. If the manga storyline were to completely rule out the SasuNaru pairing, half of the Naruto fanbase would be gone ^_^;! So, this drawing is HUGE in that respect.
Whoever got it, got it for that sketch. Even if the sketch wasn't the one used for filming. Even if it isn't all that great...
It's still of Naruto kissing Sasuke ^^;! HUGE DEAL.
If the bids were real, and more of the kiss/yaoi sketches start showing up...Mannnn...Be prepared to sell your car or home to be able to afford one. I don't think Naruto in general will go up...But...Like I said earlier...There's a lot of interesting things to come in Naruto, and if it takes off over in Japan, and then here...You never know how high the prices can climb...So get em' while they're cheap ^^;!
I hope someone in the cel community got em'. I'd love to see what all's in the set. It was an ungodly amount of money...But...Shit...I've spent thousands of dollars on wishlist cels too that weren't worth nearly as much as I paid for em'. Cause, things of that nature come once in a lifetime...And if you don't win...you would probably never see them again =)!
I don't think it's a hoax. Even if the winning bidder doesn't go through with the transaction, the second highest bidder will be contacted. I've had that happen to me once, Mandarake contacted me as the second highest bidder on a cel auction. So.....it may not go for 805100, it'll go for 805000.
Charity auctions end up going to like the 15th bidder at times....doesn't necessarily mean the 2nd bidder wasn't a hoax either. One person can be doing it all... Anyone see those Naruto sketches by Kanno yet?

Which auctions are those? I can't seem to find them.
Has Mandarake employees or staff ever been caught doing 'shill' bidding before to anyone's knowledge? I mean, I am not accusing anyone of anything at all. Just whenever a bidding war occurs on Ebay betwwen actual bidders and a "shill bidder" (a seller bidding on his own auctions with different accounts), it encourages the actual bidders to bid higher.
Charity auctions on YJ. Example would be those Tsubasa shikishi that ended really high, and after cancelling all bidders who failed to pay up, ... I forgot the exact numbers, but it made a big difference

Wouldnt the price be for 100 Yen above the bidder before that...aka the 3rd highest bidder...for instance

2nd place top bids: $9,999
3rd place highest bidder: $100
so the second bidder would win the auction for $101 cuz there shouldnt have been any competition?

My limit on that one was $6,750 but $8,000???? That's just PSYCHOTIC!!! But to be fair to the buyer, I can't think of a more rare shot that gets used over and over again in later episodes. I'm actually pretty surprised even a rough sketch of that was for sale. Evidently it was worth 8 grand to that buyer. I have never seen a cel/sketch go for that much.
