What does a lot of people here played magic sound like?

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

To put it in perspective, I've been collecting non-sports cards since elementary school. Started with ET, Annie, and Pac-man. When I moved into my new apartment last year, I finally bought shelving to hold it all. Two five-foot tall four-shelf bookshelves, about three feet wide each, taking up one wall of my dining area. All completely full of trading card binders. To be fair, one and a half shelves are shitajiki binders (I have a couple hundred shitajiki). But the rest are all trading cards. I don't even want to know what it is now, but a few years ago when I cataloged the Japanese cards I had, I came up with well over 10,000 different cards, not including dupes, promos, shitajiki, or any non-Japanese produced cards (which also number in the thousands). My collection has only grown since then, by a pretty large amount. I brought a bunch back from Japan with me in 03, and I still buy boxes whenever I see ones I want at conventions. The volume... it's overwhelming. Sometimes I think the collecting gets a little out of hand. I'll readily admit, I'm an addict.

Oh man I loved garbage pail kids. They were so gross!blueheaven wrote:OK, any old farts here remember Garbage Pail Kids? Damn, those things were like crack at my school. Teachers would confiscate them on site. Some of those things are still very expensive, especially the first series.

At the end of high school and beginning of my college years I worked part time at a store called Dream Wizards. They were a magician's supply store (stage magicians' props and tricks) originally, but had a small section tucked over on the side devoted to D&D (yes, the original one) hex-based strat games, lead miniatures and the like.
Over the three years I worked summers (and after school) there, the magicians' supply side dwindled (and got taken over by the tarot cards and conspiracy theory books) while the gaming side grew.
I have a ridiculous collection of miniatures and polyhedral dice as a result of that job, along with a massive AD&D (my favorite version) resource book library, AD&D magic-user and cleric spell cards (moderately handy for gaming), some collectors' cards of the Hildebrant Brothers fantasy art -- and a ton of MTG cards. I have a handful of Alphas left, and some Betas as well, and several boxes of Unlimiteds and Expansions. I finally kicked the MTG habit when the Ice Age expansion set came out.
Anime dug its claws into me too, as I have Cardass and pull-pack cards for Fushigi Yuugi, Card Captor Sakura and Fruits Basket. Oh, and not to forget Yu-Gi-Oh, though I focus pretty tightly on the Japanese cards (the art is better) and mostly collect incarnations of the Dark Magician 'cause he's my favorite character.
As for a weird blast from the past, does anyone still have any of the Transformers collectors cards or stickers? *grin*

If by any chance you have any extras of the Transformers: the Movie Panini sticker set and are interested in trading/selling, let me know! I bought tons of packs when they first came out (late 80's), nearly finished one album, but I'm still missing a half-dozen or so stickers. I also have a bunch of extras, and would like to someday make a complete set that aren't stuck to the pages. XDKitt wrote:

I've been collecting cards all my life. It started out simple. Everywhere I went I took a deck of cards with me. You would always find me holed up some place playing solitaire. Whenever someone went on a trip somewhere they would bring me back a deck of cards. And I'm not talking just my family, my friends did it too. (Always carried a deck of cards to school too.)
Well after I got into anime, I started collecting trading cards. I wanted pieces of the artwork but I couldn't afford cels. Then after a few job changes, I started making enough money to buy a cel. Well, maybe another one. Or how about one from each of my favorite shows. No, I need one of each of my favorite characters from my favorite shows. Well . . .

I'm with ya there. I have many from several different series I'd love to unload but sadly the market just isn't that great. I think I'd lose more money putting them on ebay than I'd make considering fees and all. That's one of the reasons I've thought about making my own website. I could just have a link saying "trading cards". Inside would be 2 links showing "my personal collection" and "for sale or trade". Ah . . . maybe one day . . .ReiTheJelly wrote:I'd love to unload my trading cards, but the US resale market for anime cards is not so good...which is too bad because I've got some rare SM cards...

Can you hear this fangirl squee?!
