Hi... quick question...

Post by Remi »

Hi all,

As some of you may have noticed (but more likely didn't) that I haven't been around much. Life has taken some interesting turns as of late, and although i've been watching some anime here and there, after about seven years, I think the collecting bug has finally begun to depart from my soul. Not that I don't still love love love looking at my cels, but there are other things and places I'd rather direct superfluous money towards these days.

That said, I've decided to follow the trend and have a gallery offer period sometime during May. I may have it sooner, but my computer is down at the moment so I have no way to add larger scans for the cels still needing them. I don't know how willing I actually am to part with most of my cels, but I would like to do some major downsizing at the least. This leads to my major question:

Which cels in my gallery should I hide?

I'll of course hide the ones I have no intention of selling. Even without feeling the urge to buy more, there are some cels that have huge emotional attachment to me and will likely go with me until I pass on and pass them on. I'll hide all those so as not to hide. There are also quite a few in my gallery I'm as strongly attached to that would be very, very hard to pry away but not impossible. These are cels that even if I were offered a reasonable 'market price' I wouldn't be willing to part with them, but for a die-hard crazy offer I could be swayed.

So my question is should I only hide the ones I absolutely will not sell for any offer? Or should I hide those and any that it would take a really amazing offer for me to part with them?

On one hand I wouldn't want to deny anyone the opportunity to offer for a cel should there be one they really, really want and are willing to pay for it. However at the same time I wouldn't want anyone to get their hopes up for a cel when they make a very reasonable offer but not enough to make me part with it.

Any and all opinions are appreciated!

Thanks and have a great day,
Remi ^_^

I honestly think I would just hide the cels I know I absolutely wouldn't be willing to part with and leave the rest up for offers. But that's just me. I generally see no harm in at least offering to entertain offers on things that you know would take a lot for you to part with, because you're really not hiding that fact from anyone. And, if someone were to make a really low offer on one such cel... there's always a kind way to reply and say.. no, it would take much much more to convince me to sell that...

Woops... I'm rambling, now. Sorry.. heh. X| Anyway.. just my two yen.

Hey Remi!
It's so nice to see you again! Here's my advice for you: Given the issues that I had with my offer period, it would really save alot of hassle and argueing if you just hide them. I too thought that I would consider those "insane" offers, but it really was not worth all of the nastiness in the end. But, that is just my two cents.

Oh yeah... that was your initial question, wasn't it? X|

I wouldn't hide those that would take a crazy offer to sell. Whenever you put your gallery officially up for offers, be sure to mention that some items will not go quietly into the night. And if anyone offers to buy them, be sure to mention that you are especially attached to that particular cel and that it will take a huge amount to sway you. If they give you grief, then refuse to sell them anything. It's harsh, but there's no reason to put up with whiney buyers when you're making no promises on anything.

My 2 cents.

I'm with just hide the ones that you will absolutely not sell. The ones that would take a great deal to part with, then maybe lable as a "precious" cel or something - mark them in a certain way, so people will know before they send offers or something??

(as this been said? I have a tendancy to not fully read before posting >_>)

Hide everything that would be very hard to impossible to part with for the first phase of your sale so you can see how it goes. Downsizing can be emotional and some time to get used to it would probably be good. You can always shift anything over to the offer block at a later date when you are further into the process.

Take the easy way out

Just name your price and forget about offering him to anyone else. :D

I would hide everything you're not willing to sell and everything that would take an insane amount to part with. Because for me, those "insanely priced" cels are really cels you don't want to let go. You can make a good deal of money without adding them to your offer collection. Later, you can decide to put them up for offers also if you want/need the money. :)

i say keep them visable if you are willing to entertain insane offers-but specify that for some cels you are not taking market value.... and then if someone gives you grief don't sell them anything.

as long as you're up front and honest that some cels you are pretty dang attached to and it'll take a *lot* ie over market price to let them go and you don't lead people on who have made an offer, then noone can rightfully get upset with you because you've been honest and upfront and you haven't given false hope to anyone. ^-^

that said. please please have your sale after the first week of may. ^-^ i wants some things or at least a chance at them (hair down hisoka and butterflies) and i'll be without internet for the first week of may.

course, you're free to have your offer period whenever it suits you even if it is the first week of may. ^-^ and good luck with whatever you choose to do. ^-^

I absolutely agree with the concept of hiding the ones you know you won't want to part with.

However, I have a suggestion with respect to the "it would take a really nutsy offer for me to sell these" cels. Go ahead and show them, because some nutwad like myself might make just such an offer! But -- consider adding a "don't bother offering less than $$$" statement or something for the benefit of those of us who don't know what "a really crazy offer" means to you.

I say this after having been on the offering end of several deals that were significantly below what the seller was thinking. In most of these cases the seller has been very polite and said "I'm sorry, but it would take at least $x (or..."a whole lot more") for me to sell this. I don't have a problem with that in the slightest. In one case, though, the seller was intensely snotty. I got an email that was just a hair away from reading "Are you INSANE? I am SO INSULTED! I paid (a big number that had at least four digits) for each one of those cels!!" To which I was then obliged to respond "and I was to know this in WHAT WAY?" :moon

It just seems to me that the easy way to avoid hard feelings is either to list a fixed price or give a bottom-end-of-offer figure.

(Or, as Minion said, you could just sell the Kenshins to me and be done with it. I'm sure I could get a 2nd mortgage pretty easily... :P)

I second Baakay's suggestion. Although I much rather the cels to just have a sale price and not having to try to guess how much you paid for them or how much it takes for you to let them go. But that's just me. :p
