Another option, if you're so inclined, is to hold a private auction. I've done this a couple of times when I didn't want to deal with the hassle and occaional ill feelings engendered by offer periods. Instead of going through eBay or another auction site, just make a page that lists the minimum you would possibly take for each cel/sketch, and then either say "whoever offers the most over this gets the item" or update it once or twice a day with the highest current offer.

Either way, people have a starting point from which to make offers, and in the latter scenario, they also have a chance to counter-offer.

Just my two yen's worth of suggestion. :)

Ooohhhh, hair-down Hisoka's.....I'd hock my first-born....

But I don't have a first-born -- /ic Hey! (drags kicking, feisty body into view)

How about a barter for this lovely, only slightly used, but still quite creative and serviceable 'minion lass! She'd be good for all kinds of projects around the house and she's good with computers too! (And if you keep her busy, she'll have no time to out-maneuver me for future Hisoka's....) Hmm?

Going back now to admire the redhaired bishy goodness while I can....

Go ahead and show them, because some nutwad like myself might make just such an offer! But -- consider adding a "don't bother offering less than $$$" statement or something for the benefit of those of us who don't know what "a really crazy offer" means to you.
Well, here's another opinion on Baakay's statement. The problem I've encountered with that is I've said I wouldn't accept less than $100 for something. The person offering turned around and said okay $100. That's not what I said. :x

Another thought is you can hide the "insanely priced" cels but say "if there's something you've eyed in my gallery but don't see it now, feel free to offer but it would take a lot to pry those from my possession."

I sure hope your head isn't spinning with opinion overload.

Good luck with your offers! 8)

ACK! No! No no no no nooooooo! I'm too busy already... there's no time to be kidnapped and bartered off as a house 'minion! 'Sides, I'm terrible at vacuuming, and you don't want a blind woman dusting your house, trust me. (*sounds of breaking knicknacks*)

Although.......... hmmmmmm...........

Tell you what, HW, you CAN swap me for one of those Hisokas. After I'm inside the house, I'll grab the other three and meet you at the Mexican border.

:D :D :D :D :D

/gg /no1 <whispers back> Ok, it's a plan! But will this mean we'll have to host our galleries 10 miles offshore in international e-waters, or from a site in a country without an extradition agreement? But... it's our duty, as members of PNABAS. (Psycho Nekkid Auburn Bishie Adoration Society) :iluvu

Good point. Yep, I can see that being a problem too. ;) ("Urge to kill" Mr. Okay $100 comes to mind...) :P

I just hate having to guess, offering what the cel would be worth to me given the market trends I'm aware of (which admittedly may or may not be based in reality), and discovering that it's worth a HUGE amount more to the seller. Embarrassment ensues on both sides. Or maybe just on my side. I don't like it, at any rate, and I keep trying to think of what else might work as I know I'm not the only one who's been in this situation.

At the moment I see only two ways to keep from running into the "between a rock and a hard place" scenario and those are:

1) post the 'ridiculous' price you really would let the cel go for, as opposed to posting a starting point, and make up your mind that you will actually sell the cel for that; or,

2) hide the thing and wait until you are actually ready to sell it.

or... I suppose there is option 3, which is "Ignore all the free advice, do what yanks yer chain, and be satisfied that someone WILL get miffed at whatever you do!" :D It's a pretty safe bet ... /heh

I vote for option 3! :P :D

You can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time.

Just hide the cels you're absolutely not willing to sell for whatever price.

I mean, I can understand it would be nice to find out what people are willing to pay for it, but if you're not planning on selling them anyway, what's the point. It will only set bad blood if they contact you and you'll have to tell them you're not selling.

Besides, if people are willing to pay a ridiculous amount for any of your cels, they will make you the offer anyway, regardless if you're having a offer period or not.

I think Hotice's suggestion is good. I assume you are going to advertise your offer period here and maybe at Rubberslug. Just put an asterisk (or whichever little sign you like) next to the names of the cels that are going to be "seriously high offers only" and clearly tell everyone that any with that sign are going to be difficult to pry from your hands but not impossible. Then they will be forewarned. Definitely hide all that you would never part with.

Wow! Thank you all for your suggestions. There are really a lot of good ones. I had sort of been thinking the little asterik or other symbol next to cels which would fall under the insanely priced category, but I think DT's solution might be the best.

Chances are, anyone willing to make an really high offer already knows what cel it is and if I hide it they can still make the offer already knowing it's hidden for a reason.

I will take payment plans, but that has to be stated in the offer and how the plan would work (how much over how many months). I still haven't begun to go through my cel books to separate the ones I can part with from those I cannot. As well, my computer is still down so no scanning available. So it will be at least a few weeks I think before I'll get this going.

Again, thank you all so much for the suggestions. I really value all of your opinions and am very grateful to have had this place to share this wonderful hobby. I will still poke in now and again I am sure, but probably not often as it can be very easy to get bitten by the collecting bug again.

Ill still be around for the next while, so hope I get a chance to chat with everyone over that time.

Have a wonderful day,
Remi ^_^
