Now you are making me feel guilty for not keeping thing stirred up a bit

I always regret when anyone leaves the board, but the loss is mostly theirs, since they can no longer interact and share their opinins and learn, or teach others. 8)

Once again, I'm going to play the bad guy.

Personally, I think this is stupid. I really like Wendy and Poe, but I just don't understand why folks seem to care so much about what others think so as to cause you pain and anger. From what I read of that thread, the whole thing was going very light-heartedly until someone made it serious. All Toni was trying to do was tell story and get some free swag for her troubles. As for Poe, you know my stance on that one. Screw em! If they can't take the sexiness, they can jump off a building headfirst into a thumb tack. One of the reasons I used to like this board was that it was a place where folks could dialogue back and forth intelligently. Now, when a good thread does get started, it gets locked out of a reactionary standpoint in order to spare hurt feelings. THAT is why I don't post here much anymore(among other reasons). I like speaking with other people. I like a good discussion. Wendy, do what you have to do. But just know that you are leaving for a VERY stupid reason. I've had my head bitten off on this board more times than the two of you put together. I've been called a prick, an asshole, and a complete jackass. And that was just Baakay when she got on a roll  But I never thought about leaving. So here is what needs to happen...

1. Mods - You are doing a great job, but let a thread run its course and see if the Betarians can solve the issue on their own before closing the thread. Give people a chance to be insulted and aghast, but then later apologize and make up. If you simply close the thread and leave out the chance to reconcile things, you are leaving a open wound to fester. The only reason a thread should be closed is if it has run on for a week with no resolution or people are threatening each other.

2. People - Grow a thicker skin. If you can't take other people's opinions, then don't offer any of your own. If you are easily offended and can't verbalize your displeasure in a calm and rational manner, stick to the "Something Fun" thread.

3. Veteran Members - Don't bitch about how much Beta has changed. If you don't like it, start posting more again. I am as guilty as anyone of not posting here as much as I used to. But if you want this board to change, then be that change. Don't run away cursing the board.

I, for one, will start coming back here more and posting. Even though I don't collect that much anymore, I don't think this board should degenerate into the abyss of Animanger and AnimeAlpha. It has come too far for that, and David would be pissed to see it happen. That's why we came here in the first place!

That's why I could never be a moderator at a board like this. I'm not very good at handling disputes. It's tough. I'm a moderator at a couple of boards, but that's only because just about nothing ever disagreeable ever happens there. One board has eleven other mods covering and they handle the more difficult topics.

I was thinking a few weeks ago that the longer I hang around the same people (or BBS), the more likely I am to get annoyed with something in someone's personality.

But being annoyed with people is part of life. You have to deal with people you don't like all the time - at work and even your relatives. If there's a major problem with these people and they're affecting your life, then it's time to move on. But if it's not one of those times then it's important to learn to deal with people you don't particularly like and don't agree with. As much as it is possible at any rate. :)

If at any point, participation in a board or another activity causes you more
headaches than fun, it's time to change things or call it quits. That's a lesson
that I learned years ago doing online RPG's. It's up to each person to decide
whether it's worth it or not. In that particular case, I would've definitely had
less things to worry about if I'd gotten out sooner or never had anything to
do with it. But, on the other hand, I would've missed out on talking to a lot
of interesting people and having a lot of fun. Even some of the bad stuff now
is mostly humorous when you look back on it.

So, if I find I don't agree with someone here, I generally add them to the
ignore list or just privately sneer at their misguided opinions (You hear that,
Keropi! Yeah, I'm talking about you, you scum-sucking Disgaea-hater! )
and occasionally enlist help from Baakay at mocking them behind their backs.

What he said ^

Wendy did what was right for her on a personal level. I don't have a clue why the thread that bothered her bothered her to the degree it did... but it did, it's done, gone bye-bye, and I will respect her decision rather than deride her behind her back.

P.S.... Kymaera dearest, you didn't secretly enjoy being called the font of all evil in the universe by gamers who didn't like it when you made them play by the same rules as everyone else? :P :P /gg

Hrm, that is a good point, that the board has changed simply because many people don't stop by as often. That makes me want to stop and say something even though I don't have much to say and I don't think my opinion's worth much! But I do think it's possible for people to have an adult discussion, have an opinion and be able to speak their minds without being a B. It's all with how things are said. I can disagree with people but still respect their ideas. I think that's just what we need to remember from time to time. People aren't going to think the same way as you, but that doesn't make them wrong and you right. It's not even about being right or wrong; it's about respect. And don't get upset at someone for having an opinion, either!! heehee

And sorry I brought up the censorship thing again. It's just an itchy subject for me. When discussions are no longer allowed to continue, I see that as a stoppage of ideas, as silly as that sounds. lol Nothing gets resolved when things are cut off prematurely.

I think the discussion was going fine, then Uende posted and the levity of the conversation got much deeper and she put a harsh tone on the whole thing. It's ok to have your own opinion, hell, make a flag out of your opinion and wave it proudly for all I care. But at that point be an adult, let others have their opinions too.

Everyone has an opinion, this is a forum for open discussion, just let people say what they want to say, don't get angry.

I'm sorry beta isn't your nucleus for socializing anymore but it doesn't help anything to make big displays out of leaving and how horrible it is here every time you leave :?
