Everyone is entitled to a different opinion and free to post it, as long as it doesn't clash with a previously stated one ?

Not what I'm saying at all. Opininos clash all the time, you don't have to be nasty about it though.

Apparently there is very thin line between nasty and openly honest.

In this time of Political Correctness people seem to have forgotten how to tolerate others and always seem to choose getting upset about something as the easy way out. The east coast of the US is not this way and people get along by speaking their minds and growing a very thick skin. I think the answer is somewhere in between.

I don't think that anyone is intentionally attacking anyone , and if they do it is only occasionally. Even families do that, so we need a little more tolerance, less defending blindly and the ability to put something aside and go on. 8)

Of course. It's the difference of being the adult and being the child. Not to say I haven't crossed the line before. But I'm sorry that I did, and apologies were made on my part to all the admins and mods here including other parties whom were involved.

However, my point still stands. Saying I'm taking my ball and going home and trash talking on your way out isn't very adult is it?

*No offense to anybody was meant by the adult child reference. It's psychological speak describing the two phases a person can be in. Either child: which comes from acting on emotion. or Adult: which comes from acting with logic. For lack of the proper psycho lingo.

I don't think the line is all that thin.
Holy crap!

Why doesn't ANYONE fucking reads what I am saying!

Please, do whatever you want, make stupid threads and argue amongst yourself about who owns what and what not...it's not worth it.

I'm outta here!
Gabriel, I realize that you and Wendy are friendly. I worked closely with her for months puting together the Beta awards a while back. I like her very much. However, this particular comment went WAY past openly honest and right into childish. We are all entitled to go there once in a while, but we need to recognize when it is happening. Re-read that thread and you'll see what happened. It started out as an amusing little post about a cel being used(not stolen) by a magazine. It was Uende who interjected a serious tone into the situation. And when her opinion was challenged(in a rather polite manner I might add), she got fed up. No one is saying that Wendy did not have a right to voice her opinion. All I am saying is that there was a better way to go about it.
Time is but an illusion. Lunch time...doubly so.

I'm okay with discussing a topic as long as the other participants don't start to take it personally. Once someone views my opposing opinion as a personal attack then I opt out of the conversation because it quickly goes downhill. When entering such a conversation, the participants should recognize that their opinion will be challenged and should learn to end the conversation with: 'Then let's agree to disagree.'

I also think there is a learning curve to online discussions of this sort. Some get it more quickly than others and the art of simply stating one's opinion without a trace of a personal attack is difficult. It's also difficult to stay focused. Many times there are phrases or comments that someone says that sidetracks the conversation. I think it's when the conversation gets sidetracked that the nastyness starts.

Best to enter into these things rarely.

I don't see the difficulty.

If re-reading is the solution you may want to read between the lines because there is no way the word "borrowed" between brackets in the TITLE can be interpreted otherwise than negative (i.e. stolen).

This connotation is confirmed as the rest of the initial post has no positive note whatsoever in it.

And when Wendy does nothing more than point out the use of an image by an established magazine should be seen as something positive instead of turning it the seventh kajillion "image theft"-thread on Beta, she gets grief from everyone who decides to go once again on the "Let's fight the injustice that huge faceless corporations put upon us little cel collectors but not actually do anything about it but moan because we all realise there is nothing we can do against it anyway"-way.

I can't say it's comforting to know that the moment someone decides to go for the "alternate perspective" they are quickly and swiftly put back in their place for having a different view.

Indeed. :^^:

It's very unfortunate that we've lost a great member of beta. :(
Hopefully, in time, perhaps she will make some periodic appearances, like dbzmomma (who herself, unfortunaltely, seemed to be put-off by the whole X-mas... pic... thing).
Anyway, point being that an on-line conversation between people who don't really know and can't see each other needs to be taken less personally. When things do get personal (as they sometimes will) and all esle fails, you gotta be able to just walk away. I mean hey, it's just digital. :P

Don't just nitpick the first post, re-read the WHOLE thread. Everyone is haveing a good non heated conversation about copyrights, images etc. Then Uende is the one who starts getting defensive and angry. Also what-does-it-matter if it's the umpteenth time we've discussed this? If people are partaking in a conversation then let them talk. You bringing up that it was a moan session has no revelence here.

You are her friend and I can understand you wanting to defend her. But a number of the people who read the thread, both willing and unwilling to post here, agree that she was the one who stepped out of line bringing the thread to a close, and her post starting this goodbye thread is just proof of her emotional actions.

No, she didn't "start" getting defensive and angry. She took an unpopular stance starting from realistic point of view. In other words, she disagreed.

And simply for disagreeing, she got interpreted as being defensive and angry. Because hey, isn't it much easier to think in black and white instead of shades of grey ? "Everyone entitled to an opinion, just don't tread of the beaten path."

I'm trying to explain what happened and I'm not going to nitpick this with you any further. If you just want to keep picking the small things and not see the big picture it is your perrogative. As it is my perrogative to step out at this point.

She's gone, maybe she'll be back, who knows?

What is the difficulty? Where will you go instead?
