Gabriel, if she was so distraught at things being brought up over and over again, then where was her concern toward the "Something Fun" or "What did you watch last?" threads? What you seem to be glossing over is the mood of the thread until Wendy started posting.
But unless you hold the rights to BraveStarr there's not much you can do about this.

You may own the rights of your own scan but not the character on it, and who's to say they did not have this image in their database long before you bought the cel?
understand where you're coming from.
But I personally wonder: is it all really that bad?

I for one would be amused to see one of my cels in a magazine, for it would mean I did a good job in scanning and providing a high quality image. The same way I feel proud whenever I see one of my cels in an art book. I really do not expect any publisher to contact me first and ask permission, because my permission holds as much value as the next or previous owner of the cel.

This is a discussion that has been held before and the only solution to this, if this "image theft" bothers you that much, is to stop displaying your cels on the internet.
Right then and there, Wendy made an assumption based on nothing concrete. She assumed that Toni was somehow pissed or complaining. NOWHERE in that original post did she complain. The word "borrowed" was meant to be humorous, as was the post. It was just Toni telling a story. You are right, Wendy didn't start getting angry(not until her 6th post). However, she is the first one to bring up legalities in a serious manner(Sugarflower's post was meant as a joke, obviously). Gabriel, I like you, but you are wrong on this particular incident. If she had actually USED the word "stolen", I would agree. But she went the humorous route and chose "borrowed." You talk about the connotation of the first post, how about this one...
It seems this has gotten off track somewhat. In the original post, we
don't say one thing about the legal aspects or what we wanted from
Toyfare (which was nothing). In our blog, people suggested we call Toyfare
in hopes of free swag (because who doesn't love free swag).

We were merely taking the time to post this and spending time explaining
to you guys, "Hey, we feel almost 100% sure this was our scan." Not so
much as a vehicle for legal action but more as a "We're not crazy, are we?
You guys see it too, right?"
Time is but an illusion. Lunch time...doubly so.

Wow.
Uh.. My thoughts are.. confused.
Sorry you're leaving Uende. (I've always smiled when I saw that spelling!)
I read the inital blog and post Toni wrote, and a couple of the humorous responses, but I missed the whole argument later.
So, I don't really have much to say about that.

But I do have a couple questions.

1) There was an animealpha??? I always wondered why this was called "anime-beta". Did people just stop posting there?

2)What's this about someone hating Disgea? It's so cute!

3) "American Idol" .. what's that?

4) Paula Abdul!? Isn't she dead yet? Last time I heard about her was when I was in 6th grade.

.... can't we all just get along?

When I replied to Toni's 'borrowed' thread I didn't mean for my comments to be taken seriously but it seems that they eventually turned the thread negative. Sorry. :(

You can't help how people interpret your posts, SF. No need to be sorry.

1. Yes, there was. It was run by a a jerk who ended up kicking everyone out because they disagreed with him. He is also a world class non-paying bidder and blacklisted seller. The first members of Beta were refugees(including myself) from that site. http://www.anime-beta.com/phpBB/viewtop ... ht=animeal

2. Usually, if something is considered "so cute," the masses will hate on it.

3. I don't know, actually.

4. I liked the "Rush, Rush" video, but the dancing cartoon cat vid was a bit much.

As for your last question...most of the time. :)

Yes. Again a grave, unforgiving error. Thou shalt not attempt to bring issues of a serious nature into the discussion.

Point still stands : she disagreed and when doing it in a serious manner, she got blamed.

And yes, she's my friend but that doesn't mean I defend her blindly.

And once again, she had every right to her opinion. My point is, was it really necessary? Everyone has opinions, but at what point do you simply look at the thread and say "Is it really necessary to write this?" At what point do we learn to hold back something for the simple reason that it doesn't NEED to be said? Her post was certainly true, but it was not necessary. She complained later on in the thread...
Please, do whatever you want, make stupid threads and argue amongst yourself about who owns what and what not...it's not worth it.
But it was her that turned that thread into the thing she hated. Wendy is more than obliged to interject a serious tone if she wishes, but does she have the right to complain when she turns a harmless thread into something else completely? Remember, she was the first one to bring up the "who owns what and what not" issue.
But unless you hold the rights to BraveStarr there's not much you can do about this.

It may actually suprise a lot of people in today's age of political correctness (which can clearly be felt throughout this forum, but that is a choice made by its members so please understand I'm not attacking that point) but :

"When having to choose between being right and being nice, some people (like Wendy and unfortunately me not enough) will still choose to be right. It may in a lot of cases not be the most popular choice of sides, but it still implies the use of a moral compass."

Then again, it may not.

Bah, I promised I wouldn't jump back into this, even after re-reading the WC thread but...

In this case I think it comes down to "being right" (which is always a debatable, subjective state of being anyway) and "trying to convince everyone else you're right". She said her piece, several times, then seemed to get very angry that no one would say, "Gee, Uende, you're right, we'll shut up now." Her view wasn't "unpopular" if you read the thread you'll see that several people posted the same thing, she was the only thing repeatedly posting with successively more defensive posts.

It's hard for stuff to come across in text the way that you mean it, and I have no idea what was going on in Uende's head, BUT what I took issue with was HOW she was saying it. She seemed to be telling Toni to shut up and stop posting about stupid stuff. Toni had as much right to post about seeing that cel in the magazine as anyone else and Uende posted twice very early in the thread seemingly for the purpose of shutting the thread down.

I don't understand why she took it so personally or felt the need to lash out (which I thought was sadly uncharacteristic of the Uende I've come to know and love) but like Kymaera said, if something on a forum can piss you off so much, stepping back and re-evaluating is probably just what the Internet fairy ordered.

Now to quote Zagalicious, can't we all just get along??? :ghug:

Bingo! As I said before, I don't have a problem with what Uende was saying. The only things I take issue with are

1. Was it really necessary to say it?

2. Did she really need to get so defensive when people disagreed with her?

You would like to make this about political correctness, but that is not the issue(look at my sig, do you think I am easily offended?). It's about propriety. It's about Wendy looking to pick a fight(which I have been guilty of from time to time). We all have the right to say whatever we want. However, instead of focussing on whether we CAN say something, maybe we should focus on whether we SHOULD say it.

So far, Gabriel, we have had a very polite and rational discussion about this issue. Everyone has handled themselves appropriately. So ask yourself why Wendy could not simply do the same? My guess is, there is WAY more to this than meets the eye. I have never seen her blow her top like this. If she is having some issue crop up in her life, then she definitely needs to take some time away and work on them. I certainly hope she can see her way to come back in the future.

Adendum: The quote is interesting. Sounds like a bastardization of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and Thomas Jefferson.
