I don't understand the way people are bidding on these items.

My translation of the listing clearly states that these are copies and not original artwork. What's more, I have seen these exact same pieces listed and bid on at least ten different times! I have even seen the exact same pieces listed in two seperate auctions at the same time.
Now granted the artwork is superb, but bidding close to $100 for something that probably cost the seller 5-10 cents each is just crazy in my book. I could be missing something but this is the way I see it.
Copies of Macross sketches, I don't get it.

Interested in any Macross, Wings of Honneamise or Rock and Rule cels.

Wow
That is kinda weird. Maybe they want to use them for fancels?
Kinda recoup their losses or something.
No clue. Especially if the
items keep getting relisted. Maybe the bidder is new to cels/sketches?
Doesn't know their real worth. Who knows. I'm personally not very
interested in sketches, much less copies of sketches. Well... I might
be if they were at a decent price. But you could easily buy a cel for
this price!
Seems weird to me, but to each his own.
At least the art is nice, as you said.

Yeah, I've been a little perplexed by these auctions too. Because, as you said, they are clearly copies and have been auctioned many many times.
In March a set went for over $300!!!
I don't think we're "missing" anything... I just think that Mikimoto gengas are very popular with Japanese collectors. For some people, spending a couple of hundred dollars for 14 first-generation copies might be preferable to spending a thousand dollars for just one original.
Who knows what insanity reigns in the mind of a true otaku.
